Awards Discussion Forum

Late I know, and I apologize for that, but the 2006 GFF Awards are finally here.

One of the things I've decided to do differently this year is, instead of have one Award Discussion thread, to have an entire forum. This is probably a bad idea, but it beats one congested thread on the one hand, and allowing discussion to clog the nomination threads on the other.

Anyway, feel free to discussion nominations or other Awards-related topics in this forum.

When I'm done making the nomination threads and switching out the placeholders I've left in place of actual award descriptions with actual award descriptions.

In other words, never.

Spoiler:
I'll try to get everything done by noon CST, but I make no promises that it will be done by that time, so don't scream at me if I'm late.

Noon or not, it'll be today.

It looks like I won't be able to make it by noon. Look for the awards to be open no later than midnight CST.

Tell Styphon to never handle the awards again here.
OK. Styphon: never handle the awards again. (Running gag, I know. I may only have been here since January, but I vaguely know the score.)

Here's a question: why don't the usual suspects run the awards each year? Is it because they're not interested, or is it because they're simply not allowed to?

Maybe I'm mistaken that certain people usually do the awards. I only really know so much about these awards.

Depends on the "usual suspects." A lot of the goings-on have to be managed by an admin in order to be handled cleanly. Otherwise you have people 'managing' something big, then having to work through an admin to actually get things done. Plus you have conflicting interests and a lack of unified leadership and things just get messy.

I'm not just talking the polls, there's a lot that goes into these things that regular posters don't really have the chance to grasp.

Miles often helps - along with Crash. It seems Crash is always most willing to help.

But from my estimate (which is meaningless these days), everyone was pretty dispassionate about the awards this round. I was afraid they weren't going to even do them.

But if any help is needed, I'm willing to donate time and whatever.

I've never participated in the nomination process before. I don't think I knew/was known in the community enough before, but it should be different this time around. Looking forward to it.

Yeah what the fuck, why do they start with the annual awards at the end of November and not in mid July

Actually, Sass, the awards threads have been the busiest ones in the hut for quite some time now. People just keep getting side tracked by answering reports of oversized sigs and LeHah and Pom trolling.

Yea, see, let us consider for a moment that I don't know these things.

I have asked SEVERAL staff members within the past 2 weeks and no one wanted to answer, so whatever. You guys enjoy your very secretive award organization or whatever.

Also, I have reported like 4 sigs in the past month. I hope you're not pinning me for your Mod Time being wasted on these sorts of things.
There's two of them and two of us, that works in our favour.

They probably don't waste a lot of time anymore. Automatically passing over any report with the name "Sassafrass" on it can't take too much time now, 'eh?
