However, her family is part of a merfolk mafia, and they abide by a strict rule: If a mermaid is discovered by a man, either he dies, or the mermaid dies. The only exception is if the man becomes a member of the family. When Nagasumi is threatened to either die or join the family, he comes to the conclusion that he must marry San.
If you like Hayate the combat butler and haven't watched this yet, watch it now.
This reminded me a lot of Hayate but it still has its own originality in its own sense. The Mermen Mafia and the leader bring a lot of suffering to the main character and he has to find ways to survive the engagement while trying to avoid the little assassin that Seto carries with her.
The animation is very quirky as the faces and expressions on the characters change like something out of Golden Boy, the opening shows a good example of all of that.

So far I'm really enjoying this series and plan to stick with it till the end, every episode is funnier than the last. With this anime, Hayate, Darker than black, and heroic Age I'm glad 2007 is giving us so many good shows to fill my hard drive with.

I started watching this awhile ago. Moreso than Hayate, it really has a Final Approach feel to it, which I really liked, so I'll likely continue it.

I've been thinking of picking up the manga, too, but I'll do then when I have a huge chunk of free time.

That artwork makes me think it's a combination of Mermaid Saga and Murder Princess actually, rather than Hayate. It also looks very serious, rather than comedic, espcially from reading the description. I might take a look if there's nothing else, since I would have never expected this kind of combination.

It's very much tongue-in-cheek.

San is insanely cute. And yes, it's pretty much Final Approach with a twist -- and the tormentor is the father-in-law this time.

Got addicted to this series already. This one and Nagasarete Airantou are on my top 2 must dl list every week

The main character and Masa (body guard) situation is the best, cracks me up every single time!

Anyway, as for me I am sticking with Ayako subs (they are just a bit faster, and their subs are quite accurate too!) which can be found here:

XviD Version
Eps 1 (190.47Mb)
Eps 2 (184.65Mb)
Eps 3 (186.65Mb)
Eps 4 (187.08Mb)
Eps 5 (192.11Mb)

H264 Version
Eps 1 (219.90Mb)
Eps 2 (224.65Mb)
Eps 3 (219.60Mb)
Eps 4 (220.48Mb)
Eps 5 (219.66Mb)

This was one of the series I decided I'd follow before the current season began, and I'm only now starting it. Judging by the first episode, I'm in for a great time.
Great character designs and animation style, rapidfire humor and an endearing setting.

Woot, new episode 5 is out

Somehow I would have guessed that San's dad wouldn't give up so easily for his daughters first day at school

Have to say that this one cracks me up more than the previous 4 episodes...

San's kaasan is trying to seduce Nagasumi? Whats going on
DL and Watch~ its worth every bandwidth

Ayako fansub:

Xvid Version - Eps 5 (192.11Mb)

H264 Version - Eps 5 (219.66Mb)

Still my favourite scene

Bumping this, I absoutely love this series to death. I just handles the funny a lot more competently than say...a show about combat buttlers that gets censored does.

Plus it has white blood, and white blood is nostaliga for Fist of the North Star and such is Ultra Win.

Basicly put, it's Mermaid Meldoy + Gansters - Magical Girl * Kenshiro so how can it not win?
All I'm saying is that if the laptops of the future are not in the
shape of chibi genie girls then I'm going to be sorely disappointed.

You sound as if you had some horrible mosaic-induced trauma in your childhood.

Never mind that Hayate no Gotoku never takes itself seriously at all (including the little sign-bearing object of your wrath), but anyway.

I wonder what halted Ayako and gg's fun little subbing spree? Maybe they ran out of scanlated manga chapters to reference ;(.

Unlikely, the subs actualy eak out the rather scant amout of translations AnimeWaves had been doing on the manga (The manga trans stoped before the contest).

Unquestionably the best series from the spring season.

The episodes just keep getting more epic. Heck, the series could've ended with the way episode 13 was done, but (THANK GOD) there's still more to go. Hopefully Mawari gets some more screen time in the latter half of the series.

I want her to teach me the rules of society.
