Koharu Biyori (Indian Summer)

Man it's been forever since I've made one of these threads. Let's start with a plot summary.

PLOT SUMMARY: Set in a near future, a time where robots are common workers for their owners. Takaya Murase has just purchased a maid robot from a robotic doll distributor, MaidWorks. Ready to live a normal cleaning, cooking, and serving life to her owner, Yui is purchased, by Takaya but he has other plans for her...like dressing her up in dress-costumes of his fantasies and more.

OK. Now that that's over, let's just say this OAV has pretty much every since fanservice idea you can think of wrapped up in the first 30 minute episode. What makes it awesome is just how over-the-top and funny it is. I actually downloaded it without knowing what the fuck it is, so I was hilarious surprised. Any show that can break the ice with an extremely well timed gundam joke in the first 30 seconds is a keeper.

CHARACTERS:



Maid Works Manager: She sells robots!



Takaya Murase: Main character, owner of Yui. Extremely similar to Yoshitaka from He Is My Master in that he's a huge pervert with a cosplay fetish. Has a side helping of otaku thrown in for good measure, but he's really a good guy. Seriously.



Yui: Robot and "straight-man" character of the series (Izumi, anyone?), with her being the only person present who objects to all the crazy weird nonsense going on around her. Arrives to Murase's house in a box. Naked. Has an incredibly strong punch, but lacks breast milk.



Midou Sumirei and Midou Ran: A-Cup Sisters who greatly resemble shrine maidens. Not very fond of big tits, and can also apparently summon tentacle monsters (Zabachu, in this case) at will.



Hajiwara Imi: Lost little girl! SO MOE. Carries a rabbit, mother has a huge rack.



Hajiwara Kanae: Mother of Imi, also a widow. Doesn't mind taking part in cafe cosplay fests.



Sumitomo Tetsushi: Shop owner and cosplay fetishist. Apparently does no object to using his own daughter in his schemes.



Sumitomo Minori: Victim of tentacle rape. DELICIOUS TENTACLE RAPE.



The Baby: Pees in Yui's face. It never stops being funny!

IMPRESSIONS, ETC: That's pretty much it. Everything about the show is great, especially the OP. Give it a shot, just make sure nobody who would dissaprove of you watching this is around when you do. There's no sex, but plenty of nudity. And tentacles.

The OAV is 3 parts, with the second coming out in January (already aired, DVD hits end of the month) and the third part hitting in March. Hop on over to TT, throw that shit in the search engine and watch it RIGHT NOW. Or Yui will SHORYUKEN you. And you don't want that do you. Do you?!

...why is it called "Indian Summer"? Does it take place in India? Does it take place in the summer?

Sweet! I'm in dire need of another funny show after Genshiken ended and so far this season has been sort of low on comedies that are actually funny, so I'll definitely be checking this out.

Don't get your hopes up on that this'll be a good substitute for Genshiken.

Okay, I admit first ep of the show wasn't that bad (I'd say it was about average, a few laughs here and there) but I thought some of it were kind of lame and I think there wasn't really too much of the humor, it was more of the fanservice/moe in this series and I just can't stand when it's too much fixation on this. Brainless fixation on sex is usually a no go for me, when they like make all these seemingly stupid female characters that are like "lol I got teh big boobs, Im gonna dress up in teh cute costumes and wiggle them for this dude I just met", but if they actually try to do something funny with it like in Genshiken with well made characters (e.g more or less realistic characters) and pretty much make fun of the whole thing I think it's awesome.

Well I don't really know if you are one who actually likes this stuff, so you can at least give it a shot. I've seen worse in this genre, it wasn't bad enough for me to turn it off so that says a lot. But then even if you put away all the brainless sex stuff I can't say there was lots of awesome put into the whole 30 minutes.

I think I'll still see the rest of the episodes just in the case there could be some epic lulz in it.

Well firstly Genshiken is a full series.

Koharu Biyori will be a 3 episode OVA, 30 minutes each. They're just trying to cram in as many fanservice jokes as possible. It's more a one-shot deal than a full series, so comparing it to one is kind of unfair.

Yeah, having seen the first episode it's definitely fun but nothing you could make a full series out of. It certainly wasn't my intention to say it would be as good as Genshiken.

I'm enjoying it though, not bad at all, I don't object to the pervy/moe/slapstick humor as long as it's performed well which this certainly is.

Fucking YES. Prayers answered. Several months later the rest of the series has been subbed. I've only seen episode 2, which continues the wackiness and then some. It goes from cosplay contest to super sentai to random bathouse scene and finally to the appearance of another maid robo. God I love this show, and Eri Kitamura is pretty much perfect for the role of Yui.
