Well, you could simply not count any additional votes the non-tied songs get. I just think extending them would be better than starting over with new tiebreaker polls (when we do that there are typically members who have already voted in the original poll who don't realize there's a new tiebreaker poll or don't bother to vote in the new one for some reason).
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Currently playing: Geometry Wars Evolved 2 (XBLA), Half-Life 2: Episode Two (360)

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

Could just extend them for a few days, put the word out, then close them at a specific time later.

If that's the way you guys want it.

I've extended all tied polls with notice in thread that only the tied tracks are to be effected by additional votes.

They've all been extended to the 5th, but because you only have the option to edit the days a poll is open, they aren't going to close in order on that day, ie Crash's polls were created at night so C's tied groups will close later than Slayer's G polls that were made mostly in the afternoon.

Since participation isn't high, I suggest that if the results are still tied after the extension both tracks should be taken to the next round, so there'll be a few groups with 3 entries.

So, I'm undoing the mp3gain . . . was there this much clipping before the mp3gaining or is this an unfortunate side effect of the undo?

I'd rather see 2 tracks enter and 1 track leave.

The clipping analysis by Mp3Gain is really bad. If it sees many waves reaching maximum amplitude, thus crawling along the upper border, it signalizes clipping, regardless of whether the original was recorded that way or not. A technically perfect non-clipping track would be where none of the amplitude is reaching the maximum, so you have well-bent waves. But the whole matter is very microscopic. If you're interested in more details, just open one of the "clipping" tracks in an wave editor (Audacity for example), and you'll understand what I mean by the waves getting their head cut. Audacity can zoom up to 0.00002 seconds, if you zoom that far you'll see that actually none of the waves are cut. There's just miniscule points touching the upper border... but apparently enough to trigger Mp3Gain's "clipping" sensor. The whole clipping talk in original recorded sound is bullshit anyway, it's just a "technical" clipping, you won't hear any of this. Real clipping occurs when you are masochistic and do +10dB gain or so, then open it in an wave editor and you'll just see everything bump up to maximum.
tl;dr: Undo = fake, technical clipping; Loud-making of old, silent mp3 file of unknown origin = possibly real clipping => check the option: makes as loud as possible without clipping

I'd rather see 2 tracks enter and 1 track leave.
It's a just-in-case measurement I've seen a few other sites do with success. It's not so problematic for early rounds and ensures that you can maintain a fixed schedule.

Well, I understand what clipping is; I've done non-stop mixes of stuff and occasionally see completely flat waveforms (usually in more modern recordings); this signals CLIP HEAVEN to me.

What I really like is something from 2006 or so with an actual crescendo and waveforms that are LOUDER than the clipped waves. 28 Weeks Later - Don Abandons Alice. Such a huge volume thing and so fucking loud when it wants to be.

Well, it seems that this contest's second experiment--four-song round one matches--has done about as well as the first--mp3gaining

My first instinct in tough ties is to give the nod to the song with more posts in support of it (which encourages people to post their opinions), but that's never been tried in practice.

EDIT: Does anyone have any objection to starting Round 2 voting on A and B tomorrow? They're all tie free and closed, and that can get the ball rolling. I'll go ahead and draw up the next round schedule and thread template unless anyone objects.

You'll now find that all previously tied polls have been resolved, things are free to move forward in a normal fashion.

E6 and G5 are still tied and need to be reopened.

They're not. The situation was this at the end of the initial voting period.

E06

101 - Highspeed - GREAT FEAR - 6
072 - OCRemix - It's Boss Time - 5
095 - Bakuretsu MIDI Contest - Dover - 5
185 Sketchy Megamix - 4

G05

251 - OCRemix - Submarine Attack ~ Into The Deep - 6
224 - OCRemix - Oil Ocean [WT-40 Mix] - 5
248 - Dwelling of Duels - Kings Quest 5 ~ Forlorn Dream - 5
084 - Sincerely ~ Ragnarok Online Arrange - Cheong Choon - 2

They were reopened with specific instructions to ignore the half that had already been solidified. Any votes for GREAT FEAR and Into the Deep weren't going to make them any more alive in the contest, any cast for Sketchy Megamix and Cheong Choon couldn't bring them back to life.

What looks like a tie when the polls closed once again is just one second place track passing up what finished in first and the other one matching its tally. It's an optical illusion~

That's a very good question. E and F should have started yesterday; I'll contact our volunteer about it. I'll make the threads myself if I don't get a response.

Sorry about that yesterday!

My computer crashed while preparing the Round 2 threads for F and I thought it wouldn't hurt if I make them a bit / a day later, because it was pretty late at the time.

Since the forum's been offline for a month, some of the polls need to be extended. I'll draw up a new schedule for the subsequent rounds tonight.

That is, of course, assuming people want the contest to continue.
