Also, will there be a companion 16 process for this, or are you trying to wrap this up asap?
Would you like one? I didn't think the interest was there. I have a surprise that I'm going to put up once the final bracket is live, but it's quite different.

And yes, the outcome of that match does matter

It would have been interesting to see what participants would pick for the companion disc. Then again, this contest didn't draw a whole lot of interest.

Yeah, this was certainly less popular than BSC and other contests. I think people were reluctant to get involved in this due to a combination of not being familiar with doujin and not caring about it. Still, I think it was worth doing.

Speaking of BSC...when is that happening? Nominations in May and contest in June perhaps? I can't wait.
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Currently playing: Geometry Wars Evolved 2 (XBLA), Half-Life 2: Episode Two (360)

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

Don't forget a giant hiatus in the middle. Really killed interest.

What killed some interest for me was the mp3gaining. There was a definite, noticeable effect on some of the files and it bothered me. If a track is naturally quiet, I can accept this. But to force the evenness of the music, it seemed unnatural and I think it caused me to consider the tracks "tampered with." In past contests, if I liked a song enough, I'd right-click and save a copy. I'm not so inclined to listen for good music knowing some files don't contain their truly original sound levels. With no incentive to add to my own collection, I found myself disinterested.

Crash, once I found out there was an undo function for the windows version of mp3gain, I was happy.

Congrats to Dragon Song (and whoever nominated it). And thanks to orion for running the contest. The participation may not have been what some had hoped for, but I think it was a good event to try. There were some really good tunes here, and I came away with a number of new favorite remixes (as well as some remixers to watch for).

Congratulations to Dragon Song. It's quite a nice arrangement and worthy of winning. I voted for Pillar of Salt, myself, but both deserved their spot in the final.

I'm just glad somebody realized that I have taste.

It's just too bad that Pillar didn't win, but, hey, Dragon Song is fantastic. How the fuck did I have 3 of the final four songs in my noms?

You got to them first. :P

I personally saved most of my noms for obscure stuff because I knew other people would take care of the popular ones.

I'm curious, then are you also disinterested by Song of the Week's MP3Gained files?

Also, this effect may have been exaggerated because, due to unfortunate OS compatibility issues, the songs in the Doujin Contest were gained much lower than they should've been. It was eventually corrected, but most of the contest was over by then.

Despite the site crash and the issues, I enjoyed the contest and wish that I had participated more, especially in the nomination round. There were a standout few which I was surprised not to see in the running (The Human Race Bando alle Seghe, May Fortune Smile Upon You, Pure Lands Total Darkness, and quite many solo piano pieces).

A light on the water... all souls pass...
