Argh, I like them both. I'm gonna have to take a minute to weigh them both.
In the end, I'm going to give it to the Elite Overture. Trading Village of Redmont captures the mood pretty well, but it sort of fades into the background. I'm rather biased against any song that provokes the "wall of sound" effect, where you have to work to hear the melody. ![]() |

Ironically, the game that's widely considered the worst Ys game is the only one I've played. Ys III: Wanderers from Ys (NES) - Trading Village of Redmont isn't as bad as the game that spawned it, but it does feel a tad bland at times.
Elite Gamerip (NES) - Elite Overture is one of my nominations. I've never played the game; I chose the song after hearing it in an NSF file. I was especially attracted to the way that the song builds up layer after layer of sound at the beginning and at the loop before bursting into the main melody. It's a great listening experience, and I haven't gotten tired of it yet. Gotta go with my nom here, folks ![]() ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

Redmont is one of those pleasant tracks older RPGs are filled with that please while I play and promptly blip off the radar once over.
I can't put my finger on what it is, but Overture reminds me of Zelda 2 in a way. Maybe it's the instruments, or the 'jogging' feel (for lack of a better term) the melody gives off. In any case, I get more out of this track than the former. DAMN good coffee!

Ys music should be a blind vote for me, but I must say that Elite Overture is more interesting here. Trading Village of Redmont is a nice town theme without any ups or downs (the Ys series is strong when it comes to battle or dungeon themes), hence Overture gets my vote.

Redmont is an OK song; not much to write home about, but pleasant enough. Elite Overture has the makings of a great song. Almost there, but not quite. Still good enough for a vote.

Wow ... I must say I can't even imagine how could someone pick Redmont out of all the KILLER tracks Ys 3 is made of ... <_<

Unlucky for "Trading Village of Redmont that it was paired up against such a beauty of a track that is "Elite Overture". However I still like the underdog here more.

Gotta agree with Niki here. I do love Redmont, but Ys III has many better themes to offer. Furthermore, why wasn't the Genesis version chosen, if anything? It's only the best version of Redmont in existence.

I personally think the Ys 3 NES arrangements are pretty bad. Iwadare did a better arrangement job for Ys 3 Mega Drive. And one could even have nominated the original Ys 3 piece instead an arrangement from a port, but I better stop rambling...

: 121 - Ys III: Wanderers from Ys (NES) - Trading Village of Redmont : 136 - Elite Gamerip (NES) - Elite OvertureYeah, pretty much what everyone else has said about Redmont: not too bad, but there are better Ys III tracks, and even better versions of this one. Still, 'tis slightly better than Elite Overture, which doesn't feel realized. Kept waiting for it to break out into something decent, but it just continued to putter around. At least Redmont's gots teh melodic hookupz. |

I've yet to check out Ys III music (because I don't want to) and Trading Village isn't helping with my initial predicament. I'm no fan of the early Ys stuff.
Elite Gamerip is interesting, obscure as hell and I had no idea what to expect of it. It's cool, and sounds more interesting than the Trading track, even though it does even less. |
