Battle 1 ~ Battle 3 is a bit repetitive, but despite that, just plain awesome. If it hadn´t already been nominated, I would have done it myself.
The rest is nice stuff too, but Battle gets my vote here.

Preludio was a bit dated, but definitely too repetitive in a negative way. The sound choices and textures were cool, but the verses felt too cut-and-paste. No way it compares to MTS or Time Chill in terms of the arrangement having better dynamics.
Somewhat weak brass and strings in the MTS track in the middle of the track, but that was the only major weak point, IMO. "Powell" was pretty cool as well, with a solid opening. The sound quality was on the weaker side with the rigid sequencing of the pan flute-type instrument, but the arrangement was fun albeit straightforward. There were some decent changeups, but I felt like the overall conservative take and repetition meant some time could have been cut off. "Time Chill" was definitely the most exotic sounding theme thanks to the strong lead choice. Solid groove as well. The brass samples were really weak IMO but were decently couched in the soundscape so as to not be terrible. Definitely the low point there, but used well enough to not sound completely fake for some sections. Easy call, with MTS a strong 2nd place IMO.

 : 121 - Preludio -For All You FF Lovers- - Battle 1 ~ Battle 3 : 233 - OC Remix - Time Chill : 174 - Over the Sky - Giza Plains : 221 - Essence -Music of Mana- - PowellPowell started off really nice, but unfortunately that's as good as the song got. Drags on far too long without bringing more goods. Same thing with Giza Plains, basically, but I like the writing more, so it ranks ahead. The middle section from 2:31 to 3:41 is really nice. Time Chill is also affected, albeit to a lesser extent than everything else. Very groovy, but I've never really liked the main lead. Sexy arrangement. Battle 1 ~ Battle 3 also has the same problem. What is it with this batch? However, I have a rock bias, so I this case don't particularly mind. Gotta get dat guitar solo. Time Chill wins on the style vote hands down, but I'd rather listen to the Preludio again.  |

While I was a bit disappointed at how many standark rock/metal tunes this contest has, Preludio -For All You FF Lovers- - Battle 1 ~ Battle 3 came and saved the day. It's the best upbeat/rock track for me as of this point, sounds fresh, unmuddled with some nice synth.
Strong group on the overall though. |

I'm glad that there's some Sasai in the contest, and this is on the whole a good arrangement. 174 - Over the Sky - Giza Plains Not a whole lot of remixes from this game so far, but I found this mellow piece to be the pick of the bunch. I really like how the aggressive original was toned down and still kept tuneful. 221 - Essence -Music of Mana- - Powell Essence is a great album, and it was tough to choose a track from it for my own list. Sort of a Caribbean/Andean take on the theme, a little long and samey but still good. 233 - OC Remix - Time Chill Funky to a fault, but I was a little bored. My bias is obviously for Giza, but the others have merits as well. Strong matchup.  From goop we came, to goop we return.
