Because some songs just sound better cranked, I think. ![]() |

Just making sure "Fighting of the God Synd" wasn't some unexpected superpwn arrangement. Pretty nice stuff though, even the brass was good. A little unpolished on the production and sound choices, but good energy throughout.
In any right universe, "Anachronism" should do very well in this contest. Don't fuck it up, people! Some of you are terrible.

: 027 - OC Remix - Anachronism : 225 - Bound Together - Vector Point Engineering Water Buffalo : 148 - OC Remix - Rena Lanford of Arlia Village : 187 - Bruite de la verite - Fighting of the God SyndOh yeah, Fighting of the God Synd is totally Sakuraba source material. Song felt too cluttered overall; everything's blending into each other. There's a nice countermelody going at 2:24-2:44 that's almost completely drowned out. Not too bad overall. I just finished listening to Rena Lanford, and I would greatly appreciate it if someone would throw me a life preserver or some other flotation device because I am drowning in reverb over here. Deceptively uneventful and repetitive, especially during the first two and a half minutes, but it's good throughout and kicks it up a notch in the second half. Vector Point Engineering Water Buffalo just drops the asskick from the get-go and never stops bringing it. Rather repetitive, but it mixes things up and brings in enough to keep things fresh to the end. Anachronism is just f'in gorgeous, though. |

027 OC Remix - Anachronism
Ah, this is the kind of piano arrangement I can sink my teeth into. A little dark, a little moody, with a strong melody and an excellent performance and arrangement. 148 OC Remix - Rena Lanford of Arlia Village One of the more beautiful themes in VGM sounds good no matter what's done to it, but the low-key opening here isn't really the best. It gets better, but feels like the arrangement is set around repeating the theme's opening bars as often as possible. 187 Bruite de la verite - Fighting of the God Synd Eh, pretty limp arrangement that doesn't sound too terribly different from the original. 225 Bound Together - Vector Point Engineering Water Buffalo Some really hard-edged techno here, with effective interludes. Reminds me of the better Phantasy Star Online tracks; very impressive. Gotta give it to Anachronism, though Vector Point made a strong argument. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

Anachronism is boring as fuck. B-O-R-I-N-G
Rena Lanford is even worse. Meandering, maudlin and pointless. Fighting of the God Synd has the balls to go somewhere with a measurable amount of passion. The melody didn't stick with me but the energy was good. Vector Point Engineering Water Buffalo sounds like it should be a stage boss in Megaman X. For that reason alone, it receives my vote. |

OC Remix - Anachronism:
Gorgeous casacading and sweeping piano that takes a little while to get to. OC Remix - Rena Lanford of Arlia Village: Far too muted and tranquil to be of immediate interest. Of course, it's another one of those "oh this is beautiful when you let it go for a while" songs, but it's not outstanding by any means. Bruite de la verite - Fighting of the God Synd I'm not a fan of the Valkyrie Profile normal battle theme, and even with rock bias, I'm sure that the opening was rather startling to some. With any other melody, I would be in love with the percussive choice. An admittedly rocking try though. Bound Together - Vector Point Engineering Water Buffalo Crash's comment is spot on. The pizzicato interested me a lot, and I love the percussion afterwards since that's when it started to get good. *Downloads* Spoiler:

Not that it would have mattered, but I was going to vote for Rena Lanford.
