"The Road Not Taken" borders on a bit too country for my tastes. However, I really the accompaniment to the vocalist. It has some interesting sounds going for it.
"Wildcat" definitely as some nice rhythm going for it and although I think the Wildcat sound effect is a bit on the corny side, I really dug the music. One of my favorite discoveries thus far in the competition. "Wildcat" it is! |
|
Neither of these are what one could call... great. But at least Hornsby is a musician, man. That wildcat shit is just horrible. I would burst out laughing if I heard that track in a public place. Easy call here.

No contest here. Ratatat is a huge underground favorite at my college radio station and I also got suckered into them. I really dig Gettysburg and Lex, but Wildcat is also a good Ratatat song.

The Ratatat tune is pretty cool, I like a bit of lo-fi French style new disco.
And the other tune is an awful country tune. No contest, fuck you Billy Ray Cyrus. ![]() |

How is Hornsby and this song country? Besides the fact the album is called Scenes from the Southside, it is not even close to country wtf. Anyway my favorite part of The Road not Taken is from 3:00-3:50, oh I just love that piano so much.
(Kavanaugh hands out a piece of gum) Aceveda: No thank you. Kavanaugh: Nah come on this is a fresh pack, it's Juicy Fruit. (Aceveda stares at him for three seconds...)Aceveda: I said no...thank you. (holds it out still) Kavanaugh: hold this out long enough some people feel compelled to take the gum, it's a sign they'll crack under pressure. Aceveda: (with a smug look) I know. - The Shield Jon Kavanaugh: "He's just PISSING all over this department, and we're just supposed to lick it up! Do you like the way that tastes? (Lifts his hand up to his mouth) Because it tastes like.....PISS to me!" - The Shield

God damn, every time that cat sound effect played I burst out laughing.
That said, Hornsby bores me. Another pretty weak pairing. ![]() ![]() The exhausted Barrier Trio struck one final Barrier Pose!

Voting for the Ratatat, although the cat sound throughout is pretty stupid sounding.
"The Road Not Taken" is just boring to me. Quiero ayudar a todos que viven en el mundo...pero empiezo contigo. Can you please listen and tell me what you think? |

Bruce Hornsby is a musical pillar and he will personally hunt down anyone who besmirches his good name.
"Wildcat" isn't unlistenable; it is merely average, possessing all the requisite qualities of a one-hit-wonder. Think "Move Your Feet", by Junior Senior, and you'll see how insignificant "Wildcat" will be in two year's time. It cannot possibly compare with Hornsby. Not by a longshot. |
|
If it weren't for that sound effect, "Wildcat" would have been just about right.
The Bruce Hornsby song is really decent, although its age, from how it sounds, threw me off. |
|
Hornsby had just about settled in my mind as "alright not so bad for country (or whatever)" when I looked up and noticed the song was only half-way in. Come on. You almost had me, Hornsby, but no fucking way you're winning me over with 7 solid minutes of that stuff.
Wildcat is pretty groovy, despite the constant telephone calls and loose feral cats. |
|
I genuinely enjoyed The Road Not Taken a great deal. However honky tonk it may or may not be did not sway me a bit.
However, I'm afraid nothing, and I do mean nothing, is going to top a funk remix of the title screen to Golvellius: Valley of Doom. ![]() |

I just recently discovered Ratatat and I found that I like a lot of their stuff, despite the fact that it all sounds pretty similar.
Alas, this song seems to me to be one of their lamer works. Like many posters before me, I laughed to myself when I heard the wildcat sound. That said, I think El Pico would have better represented the group. Still, country music or not, fuck Hornsby. Thats lame on a different level. |
|
I tried to get into this Wildcat tune but, oh fuck me pussy, every single time I heard that cat screech I was actually embarrassed to be listening to it; nevermind the fact that I have headphones on.
I don't really like Bruce Hornsby either but, hey, he's the lesser of two evils here. |
