The Pineapple Thief song sounds a lot like Muse and they're one of the current crop of indenti-rock bands that I actually don't mind too much. In fact I quite like Knights of Cydonia. The Smiths on the other hand I have never liked. I think I'm too young to have appreciated them the first time round and too old to have discovered them subsequently and got into them.

Two very long titles.
The first song is fine if the vocals were removed. The music itself is decent. The other song is okay too, I guess. Vocals are not stellar either. ![]() Classic J-Pop Volume 22 |

I like the Smiths way more than Morrissey. And Please, Please... etc. is just fantastic in a mere couple minutes.
The other song, the vocalist does sound like the Muse guy, but I think Muse is far better. |

I grew up listening to The Smiths and I STILL like them. I think that warrants them at LEAST a vote from me.

The bass line in The Pineapple Thief song reminds me of Radiohead's Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box. A lot. It's like they're not even trying to hide the influence, instead fully embracing the fact they are ripping off a much better band.
The Smiths' song I enjoyed quite a bit. Never dug into them much because Morrissey himself has left such a horrifically bad impression on me with his solo output (which I came to first), but I can see why people would rave about The Smiths. Voting for The Smiths. What movie was this song in because I recogni--BUELLER! ![]()

I'm going with The Smiths on this one. It's another piece I'm being introduced to in this contest, but it was quite the trip! I'll be looking more into them for sure. The Pineapple Thief was decent, but I really wasn't as impressed with it.

From this point on anyone who votes against The Smiths will be smitten as if by god himself for three days from the boards.*

Amoeba, you're right about that song being in Bueller (i think?). It's the part where they go to the art museum. Isn't there more to this song in the movie though? Maybe they elaborated upon it with some scoring or something. Anyway, i always liked that song ok though i've only heard this 'other' version.
The Pineapple Thief song was pretty cool! It has this maddening/hypnotizing quality about it that i'm really getting into. Vote going to Pineapple, but i'm happy if either wins.
Music is a mysterious thing. Sometimes it makes people remember things they do not expect. Many thoughts, feelings, memories... things almost forgotten... Regardless of whether the listener desires to remember or not.
