Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

Mahou Daisakusen - SORCER STRIKER
Credit where credit's due: this chippytune manages to combine some rather standard elements with a great melody and presentation to be more than the sum of its parts. I for one was completely enchanted--it's one of those unexpected BSC surprises. No More Heroes - Pleather for Breakfast People have been going on and on about how much they like this OST and its dark side, but I've never checked it out (mostly because I despised the killer7 OST that preceded it). To be fair, I do like this better than killer7, and I can see how it would appeal to a subset of VGM fans. But it doesn't do a whole lot for me. Sorcer (Soccer?) Striker. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

Huh. Could've sworn that Sorcer Striker was some of that really good late Genesis music that was written by Japanese people. Quick google search proved me wrong. Still really good. Entertaining and fun as hell. Not overly stereotypical for a schmup track. Least not in my mind.
The intro to Pleather for Breakfast made me smile. Holy god sustained dissonance is fantastic, and then it gets all weird. Holy wow. This might actually be as good as Rave On. Fucking fantastic. |

I'm very surprised to see one of my favorite songs from No More Heroes show up here. I tried nominating it for SOTW a few months ago, but the game was still too new. Props to whoever nominated!
Bad Girls and Flaming Baseball Bats gets my vote!

Pleather for Breakfast is quite different, I sort of like it. But no! In years past the sheer awfulness of most songs in the contest has conned me into saving these 'iffy' tracks to my hard drive, thinking they were better than they really were, only for me to ignore them for the next six months and finally delete theme during an mp3 purge. I'm going to be more punishing this year, to save myself extra bother.
Sorcer Striker has a melody that will never die. It gets the vote, and a place on my hard drive. Pleather for Breakfast gets brushed off with some half excuse about there being no beds left or something, although there clearly are; it's just that we think it looks a bit funny. |

Sorcer Strike was enjoyable with a good tune and some nice development but I lost interest in the piece after a bit, maybe it's genericity (it's probably not a word but I don't care
) dragged it down a bit in my estimations.Pleather for Breakfast is quite surreal but I enjoy it immensely, it has a great beat and drive along with some intriguing touches. Pleather held my interest for the whole duration hence it deserves my vote. |
: Mahou Daisakusen - SORCER STRIKER : No More Heroes - Pleather for BreakfastPleather for Breakfast starts off kicking major ass and then just dodders on doing random stuff for another four minutes. Some of that random stuff is pretty damn good, I will concede, but there's too much I'd rather tune out. Sorcer Striker is the game that got me into Atsuhiro Motoyama, and the stage 1 theme is my favorite track from the game. Mad love for this tune. Fairly standard stuff, but the melody is excellent and the track just keeps on climbing that hill. |

Whoa, one of the best BSC surprises so far! "SORCER STRIKER" is insanely entertaining all the way through. The melody's strong and memorable and the spacey sounds and developments do wonders for the piece as a whole. Whoa, crazy good this one.
"Pleather for Breakfast" was pretty interesting and cool, but kind of had me lost. It's got some intriguing nuances and sound twinges, but the end product feels slightly disjointed --or just plain messy-- to me. Enjoyable to an extent, but not something I'd go out of my way to listen to again. On the other hand, I'd take on a lion bear-handed if it meant listening to sorcer again. <3 "SORCER STRIKER" - 9.5/10 "Pleather for Breakfast" - 7/10 |

I'll give these Killer7/NMH boys one thing: They sure know how to name a track. This, however, is no Rave On -- or anything that I remotely got into, frankly. SORCER STRIKER keeps it on the straight and narrow and is better off for it.
