Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

I can't really say that this Seven-Bridge piano piece is particularly compelling, but I'm previously familiar with the Star Ocean 3 soundtrack and I've always found this piece obnoxious.

I like both of the entrants in this round, but I think I'm going to opt for SO3 here. There's a little more going on, and while some of the parts sound a little pretentious, there's still more to keep me interested than BGM 83. 83 is definitely a nice, mellow, soothing track though.
Now tell me all about your pain, down to the details. |

Star Ocean Forever Jazz Ver. makes great use of the trumpets throughout the song. The jazz piano fits in very well. In general the instruments blend in to make a very groovy effort at this classic Star Ocean theme.
No, actually this sucks. it's more chaotic than free jazz and annoyingly changes styles and speed almost every minute. A total waste of a track. BGM No 83 has very simple and boring instrumentation. the chord progressions are so obvious that there is little surprise and even less variation from start on, henceforth making the track very repetitive. Besides that, BGM No.83 is my #1 nomination, Elements Garden at their best and a stunning theme that only works at the end of a game (and outside of it). In contrary to the cumbersomely exciting jazz track, this piano piece delivers emotion. It's proof that as a developer spending most of your budget in game music does pay out. |

(Damn, the worst part about SOF-Jazz Version is that I can't not call it Jazz. Mabye Jazz in a blender. Yeah, that's good)
Well this Jazz in a Blender tune is much better than I expected, and by much better, I mean it didn't completely suck. The melody is insipid but that's to be expected, and the wild changes that happened throughout the piece made it more awkward, but there's a semblance of something enjoyable there, and that's good enough for me. Good for all the wrong reasons seems an apt description as any. EDIT: okay actually the melody isn't that bad, I was humming it BGM No. 83 is better than the other sappy piano ballads that have shown up in contests, but not by much. Still easily forgettable.

I never expected a track named BGM No. 83 to a straight piano, let alone one this lush and beautiful (then again, put a piano in anything and I get weak in the knees). Jazz, which is scattershot and never truly fulfilling, doesn't stand a chance. |

SEVEN-BRIDGE - BGM No.83
I was expecting a chiptune, but instead got a truly lovely solo piano piece. Very melodic, even heartfelt, with a slightly sad quality I find very affecting. An excellent discovery, and one of the best piano-VGM tunes I've heard (right up there with some of the Sims modes). Star Ocean: Till the End of Time - Star Ocean Forever - Jazz Ver. I like the Star Ocean Forever melody (it's Sakuraba does Star Trek, after all!), and both the SO1 and SO2 versions are in my rotation. Maybe that's why I wasn't too enthralled with this version (which really seems more big band than jazz). It's okay, and certainly energetic, but I was hoping for more. Frankly, this sounds a lot more like Iwadare than Sakuraba. Opus No. 83, "VGM." ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

"BGM No.83" is seeded #83 lololol conspiracy. Well, putting aside the lulz, this piece is quite the antithesis of lulz. It's an absolutely gorgeous piano theme with poignancy bulging out from all seems, actually. I'm usually all like "sigh, so boring" with long piano pieces, but this one's intrinsically different somehow, even boldly so. Some of the melodies in this one just sound so right, it's hard to believe they haven't been used before. Absolutely stunning~
"Star Ocean Forever - Jazz Ver." was, yeah, way too scattered to really enjoy. I dislike this version of the forever tune, which in all its glory is a listen of epic proportions. This jazz version strips it of its dignity entirely! Ok I'll admit it is somewhat fun at points but on the whole I can't ever see myself voting for this tune. "BGM No. 83" - 9.5/10 "Star Ocean Forever - Jazz Ver." - 5/10 if it just had a generic name like its opponent, it would've been a 7-8 |
: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time - Star Ocean Forever - Jazz Ver. : SEVEN-BRIDGE - BGM No.83BGM No.83 is the best piano track I can remember making it into the BSC and I'm impressed enough by it that I can't really bring myself to drop much hate on it besides saying it's way too long. It sounds like it was originally written for piano so that's welcome. Speaking of way too long, this Star Ocean number is even more offensive in that regard. And there's even more stuff that's offensive about it, but that's what makes it hilarious. When the orchestra busts in halfway through, and then the hamfisted attempt at epic build at 6:12, amazing. And the ending, comedy gold. I love this track dearly. |

BGM No.83 is teh BEAUTIFUL PAIZNOIS.
What the hell. at the orchestra in the middle of the Jazz. That's got HILARIOUSLY DISJOINTED enough for me to ALMOST vote for it. Build isn't bad.Decent Motoi vs. beautiful painweros! BEASUTIUFL WINS |

Wow... BGM No.83 is what Driving to New Fork should have been. New Age piano at its finest.
However, I think Sakuraba's post-knee-slapping Jazz-tacular bonanzathon takes this contest to an entirely new level: it was so violently temperamental and hilariously unpredictable that I was actually frightened into voting for it. I don't think any other song thus far has enlisted my support by means of overt hostility, let alone any other song I've ever heard through any venue (if that's not how you interpreted that middle part--as an act of aggression--then I seriously need to reexamine my understanding of musical symbology). This song is a beast, and it commands propitiation; consider my vote a gesture in that regard. |
