The Drag-On Dragoon soundtrack is one of my favorite VG soundtracks ever, but it's definitely an acquired taste, and not everyone will be able to appreciate its uniqueness. Seere's prayer is epic and full of action, and is a good bit more melodic than most of the DOD tracks.

Palmira sure does have a lot of activity, especially during the beginning. The whole song in general has a lot of sounds and layers, but while listening I get the feeling that they are working against rather than with each other. After a while it just starts grating on the ears.

I think it will have to be DOD. The serious epic strings do it for me much more than Palmira's hyperactive happiness.

Oh no...!!!

Jesus, who keeps renominating Buying Goods at Palmira.

Seere's Prayer is pretty good, I like loud music.

palmira sounds like 2 separate tracks spliced together. in the sky was not enjoyable to me, mainly due to the lack of a main melody, but it was much more preferable.

Drakengard - Seere's Prayer - In the Sky
The Drakengard-On Dragoon has never been a favorite musically; it tends to be unique but weird and unlistenable. This piece is at once more tradiational and more listenable than its ilk, but it's still pretty out there for VGM. Sounds like Elliot Goldenthal on an off day more than anything, but that's enough to earn it a cookie.

Evergrace - Buying Goods at Palmira
This is actually the third straight year for this turd: once in the '06 prelims, a full entrant in '07, and now again. Like an open can of mayonnaise, it gets worse with age--the total disharmony and instruments playing randomly over top of one another is more pungent now than it's ever been.

Buying Goods at Palmira sounds as if two or three tunes are played simultaneously, overlayering each other. Funny, but too messy and disoriented for my taste.

That´s what I thought two years ago and what I posted last year. No substant change here. Next one please.

In the Sky is not the designated contest winner. There´s a whole lot of drama but where´s the melody? And still, it´s the better choice here.

I like how people bitch about Palmira's chaoticness, then go ahead and vote for something from fucking Drag-On Dragoon. I mean come on.

Seeing as I've been the one to nominate Palmira all these times (even though this is only its second time in the contest proper), I do admit that I like this kind of chaos. I'll listen to Seere's Prayer a few more times before I decide.

Holy god. I hate polls like this. I've loved the oddness of Palmira ever since it was first nominated, but the DOD OST is fucking awesome.

I'm not a fan of songs reappearing in contests, but when it's Buying Goods at Palmira, there is no objection. Huge fan of it since the prelims '06.

But damn it's up against the masterful orchestral cut-'n-paste work that is the Drag-on Dragoon soundtrack. Admittedly I've only heard a few tunes from the soundtrack(s), best one being that bonkers Twelth Chapter Sky from SotW (no joke, if that were here, this would be the best pairing of all time), and while it's not as good, it's up there.

I'll throw a bone towards Palmira, though I really want to check out both soundtracks soon.

^^ Thanks for the upload wvlfpvp.

I've heard a lot of good things about DoD music, and listening to "Seere's Prayer - In the Sky" I'm not surprised the music is so highly acclaimed. This one's frantic, dramatic and thrilling from start to finish, a fantastic achievement in itself! The instrumentation is stunning, and those violin strikes are full of vigor and awesome. <3

I don't really remember "Buying Goods at Palmira" from the past couple of years, so in effect I'm judging this from a clean slate. I honestly don't get all the hate; this tune's wonderful! The multitudinous layers of melody and instrumentation really creates a marketplace like atmosphere. And the piece progresses really nicely, too. I'll give this one my vote, if only to counterbalance all of the stupid hate people are throwing around. Also, those background vocal chants put DoD's violin strikes to shame.

"Seere's Prayer - In the Sky" - 8.5/10
"Buying Goods at Palmira" - 8.5/10 plus .1 out of spite

Oh well, at least Palmira isn't going to lose to some god-awful tune.

Muzza, the album is built of samples from classical pieces; original pieces were written by such varied composers as Bartok, Debussy, Mozart and Wagner. I don't have a complete list of the pieces sampled because that would take forever to get (thanks to the fact that nobody's completely transcribed the credits for the game). Still, it's brutal.

Also, my copy of the Volume 2 OST is apparently "incorrect," with track titles incorrect and track order out of whack. If anyone's got the "correct" rip, I'd be happy to have it.

Most of them probably wouldn't like it, because it's far too brutal for them.

Also, I just re-looked, and the booklet credits are severely lacking; they only have Sano listed as Sound Designer . . . there's no credit given at all for Music, and none for Aihara.

Buying Goods is as flawed a track as any, but it's a beautiful mess to be sure. On the other hand, Seere's Prayer has some really excellent parts (love the brass) and detestable ones (hate the strings). Choosing one flawed track over another.

Uh, most frantic pairing so far?

We had a crazy DoD song in BSC 07 as well, and I don't recall liking that one either. This just seems like a lot of loud noise. I hate to think what the other songs sound like if this is supposed to be one of the most melodic ones.

Fun fact: I initially removed the links from the first post, thinking I somehow had accidentally acquired a sped up version of Palmira. I was surprised when I found out that's how the song actually is.

Palmira is interesting. I think a "regular" version of this song would be nice. As it is, it has some decent parts, even if it does initially sound like a mess. I'd certainly rather listen to this than Seere's Prayer.

: Evergrace - Buying Goods at Palmira
: Drakengard - Seere's Prayer - In the Sky

Seere's Prayer is not my favorite from DOD, but it doesn't have to be because chances are if you pick a track from it it'll be awesome. Just like Seere's Prayer is. Epic action piece.

Buying Goods at Palmira however is just as masterful as ever. Nice melody and excellent whateverthecrap the rest of that is. Best thing I've heard from Hoshino by far.

They are the same people booing at the premier performance of Stravinski's Rites of Spring in Paris. *shakefist*

Seere's Prayer is about as far away from a prayer as I can imagine, but it's a fantastic piece of visceral orchestral violence, reminding me of Bernard Herrmann, which is of course always a good thing. If it is a collection of samples, I'd love to know what the first bit is from.
