Chick Habit isn't a bad tune, who nominated this? It can be a little grating if you listen to it more than once a day but it's perfectly tuneful.
The White Stripes are crap at the best of times and this is one of their worse efforts. If the song was supposed to be named after the northern phrase then they get extra demerits for spelling it wrong, it's supposed to be ecky thump, fucking idiots. ![]() |

I'm most possibly in the minority when I say that I actually like The White Stripes and even though this IS one of their less... um... tone-deaf songs I have to vote it into the next round. See, this April March song is actually kind of OK. It reminds me a lot of the kind of upbeat humorous jingle that was the staple of 60's sitcoms; more specifically The Munsters.
So yeah, sorry Jack and Megan, see you crackas next round! |

I didn't remember Icky Thump being that bad. In my defense, I've only heard it once before. It's trying so hard to be progressive and awesome yet it fails miserably. Chick Habit is annoyingly catchy but isn't truly awful.

Icky Thump is just another generic "let's play our guitars funky and throw together some rhyming words" rock song. It takes real "talent" to make a song with "daddy-o" in the chorus.

Chick Habit is featured heavily on the soundtrack to But I'm a Cheerleader which makes it fucking -brilliant-. They're also directly responsible for the popularity of groups like Dressy Bessy and the coining of the term CuddleCore to describe the music they make. That alone is funny enough to warrant me voting for the Stripes.

I was just saying to Crash in chat how bad of a choice Chick Habit was for this contest.
Icky Thump, on the other hand, is a below-average song by a band I enjoy. Not much more, not much less. Still, that's enough to get the voe in this pairing. |

Better!
I was having a long, ponderous inner dialogue about whether I should save Chick Habit to my hard drive, then your post came up and everything was ok. In french it clearly makes the grade. Icky thump isn't even terrible, but there you go. |

I spent nearly twenty minutes switching between these trying to figure out which was more despicable. Both so utterly bad and yet in completely different ways. On the one hand hand Chick Habit makes my ears bleed on the other The White Stripes make me want to hate the world to death with my brain. Ultimately spite was the deciding factor seeing as shin legitmately enjoys Chick Habit.
Water is the strong stuff
It carries whales and ships But water is the wrong stuff Don't let it get past your lips It rots your books It wets your suits Puts aches in all your bones Dilute the stuff with whiskey Aye, or leave it well alone |

I rather liked that April March song to be honest. White Stripes are reasonably meh on the whole and Icky Thump is a bit poor.
