Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

The battle of the Western tracks~
"Jungle 01" is just so damn exciting and enthusiastic; surely it's impossible to dislike it. The compositional expertise showcased is seriously masterful, and the pace is infectiously fast-paced. I expect this one to progress here. As much as I hate to do it, I'm going to have to vote against the Contra tune this time. Of all the tracks remaining, "Jean Lafitte's Ship" is the one that's grown on me the most since last round. I don't know why, but I'm loving the instrumental touches and flourishes on this one more than I did before. If the rest of the Voodoo Vince soundtrack has this much character, I'm going to have to check it out! "Jungle 01" - 9/10 "Jean Lafitte's Ship" - 9.2/10 I didn't want to give Jungle an 8.5, nor did I want to give Jean a 9.5. Hence the odd marks. Edit: lol a user called "PiratePrince" voted for the pirate ship track, how lovely. |

Yeah, the rest of the Voodoo Vince soundtrack - at least from my quick perusal of it - is pretty rockin'.
This is a tough match. Jungle 01 has definitely grown on me from Round 1, and its high-energy, balls-to-the-wall octane is something to be praised. But I also love Jean Lafitte's Ship and its subtle progressions and changes... hrm. Gonna go with the Vince on this, but I wouldn't mind either moving on. |

I haven't gandered at the other matchups in the finals, but these may be the two closest in terms of quality. Jean Lafitte has character to spare -- a major plus with its distinctive sound. However, Jungle 01 proves when you get a synth action track cranking, its potential knows no bounds. The kid in me who grew up on this stuff casts a wholehearted vote for that.
