Pairing II (D)
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

Round 2 isn't much, it only has a cool Streets of Rage-beat going for it. But compared to this other track here...
Opening would go on to win the most WTF nom ever award, if there was one. I think it needs the game's context to be intelligible. The latter half of the track is neat though. |

Superman (Gen) - Round 2 definitely fits in the "urban chiptune" genre, if there is indeed such a thing. The tune didn't do a whole not for me.
I always wanted to play the Alternate Reality series, since the concept sounds hella cool, but I could never get it to work right on an emulator. I never heard Alternate Reality: The Dungeon (C64) - Opening during my attempts, since the emulated sound didn't work, but the composer is clearly aiming for a sweeping epic sound. The track doesn't quite make it; and the inclusion of seemingly-random SFX in the second part over an endless beat, followed by an off-key melody, really torpedoes things as far as I'm concerned. I really wanted to like Alternate Reality, I did, but that middle section is simply unlistenable. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

I kinda like the laid back sound of Superman (Gen) - Round 2, opening doesn´t do anything for me, some passages are solid but some are not too comfortable to listen to. Round 2 should easily win here.

The Superman track is pretty neat, but seems like it's building up for something that never comes. It's nice and atmospheric, but doesn't take off properly. Opening was another of my nominations, and I'm not making any apologies for it.

Superman is laidback GAAA-ROOOVY. That's about it.
Opening has some really really neat stuff. That one middle section, with NOTHING GOING ON? yeah, that's the only negative. Opening for not just being there, like some lazy lay. |

The groove in "Round 2" is very nice and I like the way it starts with the drums alone. The melody, while still being there and enjoyable, is sparse and not much elaborated. Nice laid-back track and a surprise for me; I never thought that this Superman game had this kind of music.
"Opening" is much more melodic than its opponent, although in a strange way at times (especially when there is no music anymore at 1:23). The sound effect that pops in at times during the first segment is very similar to the sound the belly of my dog makes when she's hungry. At first, I thought it was coming from her, as she's currently laying in my lap. A medley, as many opening themes are, and this has both good and bad points here since some parts are very nice and others are not interesting. In a global perspective, I found this track to be good, but not great. I don't mind about any of them winning here, as they say, but I'll go with "Superman" as it's more cohesive. |
DAMN good coffee!

Superman was another one of my noms, so you know which one I voted for.
I chose Round 2 both because it's a just plain awesome track, as well as promotional purposes. Superman by Sunsoft for Genesis was a really obscure game that I don't think a lot of people played. More surprising even (or perhaps not, considering Sunsoft's awesome track record), was the fact that it had such awesome music. Round 2 is different than most of the music in the game, in that it's incredibly laid back and sports a heavy groove. This what I liked about it. The offbeat piano chords in the background... Groovy bassline... Crystaline melody... Ah, hypnotic. Obviously I seem to enjoy the track more than most people, but at least it seems like it'll succeed into the next round.- Justin Pfeiffer |
: 124 - Superman (Gen) - Round 2 : 133 - Alternate Reality: The Dungeon (C64) - OpeningHahahaha, Opening is amazing. I love when the completely irrelevant melody comes in during the nothing section. And the ending is epic beyond words. Voting for |

Well, Round 2 is good, and certainly more accessible. I think I would have to listen to Opening like 5 more times to hope to get into it. It's just...really weird and disjointed.
