Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Currently playing: Nothing

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

What else do I listen to?

Crystal Chaser (PC-98) - Opening is definitely trying for that 8-bit epic feel, and doesn't quite pull it off. There are some nice bits, but the song's opening is, well, creaky. Still, there are a lot of compelling parts in there that could have, nay should have been expanded upon.

Lucky Dime Caper (SMS) - Andes Mountains is far simpler and less ambitious than its competitor, yet another variation on the cutesybouncy theme. The entire tune felt rather flat to me, as if the composer was just going through the motions. This ain't your Uncle Scrooge's lucky dime.

I'm giving the point to Crystal Chaser, which at least tries to be big and bold and different.

Ugh. I don't like either song. At least the snippets of coherent melody in the Crystal Chaser opening are somewhat interesting. The Andes Mountains is incredibly bland.

Well, Opening isn't horrible Motoi, it's just not that good, either. (I'm saying that a lot in recent pairings.)

Andes Mountain IS an exploration of Uncle Scrooge's lucky dime, orion just doesn't know what he's talking about. Meh. I could give a shit one way or the other about these two songs.

I guess I'll vote for Andes. For the fuck.

I haven't fallen off my chair while listening to both of these tracks (I have fallen off only two times so far during this contest: "April O'Neil Theme" and "Storm". So, it isn't too critical for me to say this.

"Opening" is a long piece, with variety and an enjoyable atmosphere. It's good!

On the other hand, "The Andes Mountain" seems to be shorter than I thought it was. I know it's no Everest, but it's still mountains, and not plains. So yeah, I found it pretty plain. Not bad, just too ordinary for me, sorry.

I'm liking Opening a lot. Many varied ideas are pulled off quite nicely, and it has a heroic feel. I had to listen to this twice to digest it. It's not a killer, though.

Andes Mountains is pretty , and I'd probably enjoy this a bit more on a good day. I don't like the almost copypasta mimicry in the bass line, though.

Opening is another of Sakuraba's long, winding melodies that meander for a long time (a considerably long 4 minutes here) and end up going nowhere. Turns out I'm not liking any of the guy's older compositions. Sure there are interesting bit of melody here and there, but the whole thing is feels burdensome to listen to.

Andes Mountain was far simpler and easier to bear, so I'm giving it my vote. Besides, it has maracas (or what sounds like it). And it's SMS!

Crystal Chaser's Opening is GREAT. For all of half a minute. I really, really like its opening bars, but after that... Bleah. Hard to enjoy until the good bits wind round again.

Andes Mountain is kind of garish and bouncy. Lesser of two evils and all that; I'm going for Opening...

: 037 - Crystal Chaser (PC-98) - Opening
: 220 - Lucky Dime Caper (SMS) - The Andes Mountains

Voting for Opening for reminding me of Tetris Attack with the bassline at 1:31.

Spoiler:
Also because it's a damn fucking good song. The Andes Mountains is hella fun, but Opening just has too much depth here for me to appeal to my happy bias.
