Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Currently playing: Nothing

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

I'm definitely starting to notice a signiture C64 sound, and Glider Rider (C64) - Title fits it to a tee. Surprisingly detailed rhythm that mixes music and (annoyingly) SFX, with far, far less in the melody department.

Ristar (Gen) - Ice Scream (Stage 5-2) is a hearty bit 'o chipfunk. I'm not all that fond of funk and tend to find it boring. Such is the case here, where I tuned out long before the soing was over.

Gonna have to go with Glider Rider Slider Hider Chider here.
From goop we came, to goop we return.

Glider Rider: wow, what's with that opening? Also, what's with me not noticing when the track was over?

Ice Scream is one of the least of a really good soundtrack. It's decent, though. At least I notice it.

My theory is that it was caused by the fact your brain switched your ears off, since they were receiving an overload of extremely great aural stimuli, in order to protect itself from burning up with all the activity it would have generated to make you feel intense pleasure. A bad for a good I guess, but it's still regretful for you. Luckily, I've had myself go under surgery not so long ago, to get a "manual switch reset", so whenever there's an overload of that kind, I can simply switch it back in a matter of a second, instead of waiting until it gets cooled, which can be accelerated by applying something cold on the ears, like ice or ice cream (or the way Japaneses spell it, "Ice Scream") for example.

Oh my God, I have to apologize to the nominator because that's not true. I actually liked "Ice Scream" a good deal. It's a laid-back groovy piece, with nice crystal synths. All is great, but the competition David Whittaker is holding here is just too much. Another track of his I'm discovering with the help of this contest, which makes me very happy!

Ice Scream is really cool (boooo), but at this point I wonder why the best tracks (2-2, 6-1, and 6-2) are missing.

That other track sounds almost awesome. Almost. It could still be much better with a more interesting melody, but everything else is great, and enough to get the point.

Cheers to whomever nominated "Ice Scream." It was one that I strongly considered nominating myself. Ristar is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time, this stage is easily the best in my opinion. Although I probably like it's counterpart "Rinky Rink" a bit better, I simply love the laid back groove of "Ice Scream." It always reminds me of drifting down some ice cream wonderland. The undertones Sasaki incorporated into this remix also give it a strong pull. I have to admit the Glider Rider track is pretty cool, but it's a bit klunky. There's no way it should win over "Ice Scream."

But I suppose it will.

Ice Scream is a nice, chill-out track. Nothing bad about it. But I'm liking the sci-fi atmoshpere in Glider Rider's Title a whole lot more. The intro's amazing, and so is that melodic passage that begins at 1:13. It isn't awesome overload, but quite close.

: 092 - Glider Rider (C64) - Title
: 165 - Ristar (Gen) - Ice Scream (Stage 5-2)

Moral of the BCC: you can never have too much Ristar. But while Ice Scream is taking me to Funkytown, Gilder Rider is flying straight into the air. Close one, but I feel more satisfied after listening to Glider Rider, and I could remember its melody more after listening to it than Ice Scream's.

The Glider Rider title is pretty cool, if a bit repetitive. It gives me that C64 chill, and by that, I mean a good emotional feeling.

Not sure what annoying SFX orion is talking about. The stuff at 7 seconds in maybe, but I don't find that "annoying" at all.

Ice Scream is a nice little groovy track. Typical Ristar goodness.

It's hard to pick between these two different but good tracks. I'll just let this one turn out however it turns out.
