Pairing IX (D)
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

Great Giana Sisters' ghost! The Great Giana Sisters (C64) - Loading Theme is a fairly interesting tune with a nice rhythmic part, even though the bassline repetition did wear on me after awhile.
Fresh from the prelims is Crusader of Centy (Gen) - Anemone Beach. I said before that I think this song has an unfair synth advantage, and I hold to that. It doesn't help that the tune itself is pretty boring. Who are the Giana Sisters? What's their angle? Let them know I'm voting for 'em. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

I think Anemone Beach was one of those songs I voted for simply because I liked the competition even less. Not wild about the loading theme, but even less wild about the beach.

This Loading Theme is . . . well, it's OK. The drums are overwhelming EVERY FUCKING THING ELSE IN THE SONG THOUGH.
Anemone Beach is still catchy and I <3. |

I've already given my opinion about "Anemone Beach" during the prelims. It was negative, and still is. Sorry.
The theme from "Great Giana Sisters" is, by going straight to the point and recycling (which everybody should apply, for a better environment), great! Not my favorite composition by Hülsbeck, but it's good enough and the sound, for a C64, should deserve a special mention for it is advanced and clear. I don't know if the illusion is only mine, but does anyone else hear a snippet of "Just Can't Get Enough" (by Depeche Mode) in this track, at 0:34-0:39 to be precise? |

I didn't nominate this song from The Great Giana Sisters, but I'm willing to fully support it throughout the contest (except against a couple of my noms, perhaps). I absolutely love this song.
Anemone Beach got my vote in the preliminaries, as it is above average, and I wasn't a fan of the music from Skate or Die. It just doesn't do enough for me to make me like anywhere near as much as I like Loading Theme. ![]() |

Man what happened
I was eager to write off Giana Sisters Loading Theme as that outdated huelsbeck tune that was simply ok. It sounds the same. But I'm feeling giddy all over. Something's not right. Anemone beach takes a couple seconds to get itself off the ground, but it's pretty. Really tough vote, but jeez what the hell just happened. |
: 245 - Crusader of Centy (Gen) - Anemone Beach : 012 - The Great Giana Sisters (C64) - Loading ThemeI said during the prelims that, even though I was voting against Anemone Beach (SKATE OR D-D-D-D-DIE), I wouldn't mind it moving on. And why not: it has a catchy melody, sounds good, and is just an overall fun song. A bit on the short side, though, so Loading Theme takes that aspect of the contest. Repetitive, sure, but it's nice and bouncy and has good melody of its own. Close one, but I narrowly prefer Anemone Beach. Definitely wish that both could've been able to make it to at least the second round, though. |
|
Both are quite the feel-good songs that they are. But on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give Anemone Beach an 8, compared to Loading theme's 11 for being extra playful.
It's a shame one has to go. |

Anemone Beach is a fun song, but I have to give it to the Giana Sisters. I get more caught up in the latter's melody.
