Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Currently playing: Nothing

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

What else do I listen to?

Damn, "Rocket Hideout stands no chance. "Battle of the Holy (Stage 1) is pretty good, albeit lacking of my support. That's right, I'm voting for the former 'cause of it's good beginning and because...

...it's my nom!

Wasn't Rocket Hideout your number one nom? I really don't see why it's that great....

Sorry, Muzza, but I just couldn't get into Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal (GBC) - Rocket Hideout. Maybe playing the game would have helped. The rhythm is nice, but that main bit sounds really out of tune to me, or off-key, or something.

I'm pretty sure I've heard Castlevania Adventure (GB) - Battle of the Holy (Stage 1) before. My anti-Castlevania bias is as strong as ever, though this tune does have a nice melody. It's not bad.

Much as I'd like to help Muzza out, I have to vote for the Holy Stage 1.

Heh, nope, I think it's my number 2 nomination. And thanks for the thought, orion!

And by the way: I knew when I added this as a nomination that it wouldn't get anywhere. For some reason I think I'm the only one who likes it.

For all we know that could be intentional, what with the ominousness and distortion of Team Rocket.

That's probably because of bad emulation. I haven't played the game recently (that is to say, in a few years) but I don't remember that song sounding so scrambled and out of tune.

Oh and neither of the tracks are any good, Rocket Hideout is just annoying and Castlevania sounds like a parody of every single 8-bit castlevania tune ever, so neither one gets my vote.

Rocket Hideout sounds accurate... it was that messed up on the original Game Boy Color.

Yup...if my memory serves me correctly, this was the original version; as far as I know it isn't messed up or anything (although I realise it will be close to impossible to change people's minds regarding this track =P)

By messed up, I mean devoid of a melody that doesn't annoy >_>. Gold/Silver/Crystal are filled with way too many of these annoying tracks without any good melody.

A song has to do better than just show off some distortion to impress me. Another vote for Castlevania, hooooo~

Rocket Hideout. WTF. *WE WANTED TO DISTORT EVERYTHING SO WE DID IT. CLIP AHOY or whatever*

At least Battle of the Holy is a track that got taken to later Castlevanias or something, cuz I remember it and I haven't really played any of the GB Castlevanias. And it's good. Yay!

Edit: And I, like a retard, just voted for the fucking Rocket Hideout track.

What's wrong with me? i don't care if you fix the vote or not, cuz there's no way in hell that Pokemon track is winning.

Not another piece of trash from that crap that is Pokémon! (Joke, I try not to be too arrogant in my comments). But wait, hmm, I'll restrain from elaborating... I did not find this track very good, sorry.

In an opposite way, I liked "Battle of the Holy". I've heard it before, but never listened to it much because I simply had too much things to listen to. I had no idea Nario Hanzawa composed this, what a surprise! It's a splendid Castlevania theme. Is the bass originally that heavy? Being from Konami, I guess so.

That's impossible, cause I don't like this track. I'm not even joking when I say I prefer Rocket Hideout over that.

Well, to be honest, I like Rocket Hideout because it made me laugh till I nearly dead. But I took that as a really good note, and I have listened to it multiple times and laughed every time.

Castlevanias have always had a knack for having awesome first stage themes, and Battle of the Holy in CVA is no exception. It grabs you instantly. I don't understand the general Castlevania music hate that seems to go on here. I consider CVA to be arguably the best 8-bit Castlevania soundtrack out there, being bested possibly by III. At any rate, the Pokemon track hurt my ears so this is a no brainer here.

That'll do for me, honestly. Even if it's a sympathy vote, or a laugh-at vote, I'll take it.

I remember Rocket Hideout from the game. And... it just doesn't do anything for me. Battle of the Holy is nothing more than generic Castlevania tuneage. But it manages to be a bit better in this pair.

: 076 - Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal (GBC) - Rocket Hideout

Wow, Rocket Hideout is hilarious. I was || close to voting it out of hilarity like DC72, but I actually do kind of like Battle of the Holy.

lol. Can't find anything good about Rocket Hideout to be considered nom-worthy. Maybe that's the point?

Battle of the Holy is another GB beauty, with a catchy melody. I don't find it as bad as some people are making it out to be.
