Pairing XIII (D)
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

Not too impressed with Wacky Wheels (Adlib) - Turbo. Songs of this ilk are starting to bore me, since they're all so alike. Throwing up a wall of hyperactive sound is no substitute for a terrific melody or original ideas.
Speaking of which, Moon Crystal (NES) - Waylaid Street (Stage 2) has all the qualities I just blasted its opponent for lacking. A little more laid-back, yes, but far more satisfying. Moon Crystal point get! ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

Turbo: (at first, I forgot I hadn't advanced past the Herzog Zwei track that winamp had randomized and I was commenting on it.) Yeah, this has less melody than the Herzog track. And it seems like it's not quite trying as hard. I like the solo-y bit before the one minute mark. That's about it.
The Moon Crystal song is really fucking nice. Not great, just nice, but sometimes nice is all you need. |

Finally, one of my nominations!
"Turbo" is a very fitting title for this theme. It starts as if the contact has been made in a car and the motor began to turn, and then gets to super speeds. It is a quite long piece and it offers much variety. Rock-driven and with a semi-bad attitude, it certainly move things around. The melodic instruments are sometimes not very precise or on-the-front, so on the first listen, it can seem poor in the melody category, but I believe it's still melodic even if it doesn't feature a main theme line, while being also very rhythmic. It also features many cool chip effects. I guess you have to be a fan of hard hitting rock to appreciate this music, and luckily for me, I am! "Waylaid Street" has a medieval kind of melody, which is enjoyable, but unfortunaly only lasts 21 seconds, then the bass finishes the piece at 0:27. So, it's extremely short and doesn't offer much in my opinion. I've tried to find the "terrific melody" and the "original ideas", but it was in vain. I guess people really don't like AdLib rock to go for the ~20 sec. unspectacular "Moon Crystal" track. But hey, everybody choose what they want in life! |

Turbo is awesome, but random as hell. Unlike that thunder landing random track, this one is actually fun to listen to.
Waylaid Street decimates it from an objective standpoint, no doubt about this. However, for some reason, I would prefer to see Turbo advance, and so it gets my point. |

Waylaid was a complete snore-fest for me. Short and dull. Turbo on the other hand, though not spectacular, offers energy, drums, and cool effects. The melody was a bit random though. No contest for me here, Turbo it is.

Turbo sounds a bit chaotic with its many different sections and progressiveness. Some sections were quite enjoyable. Like the melody in the midsection, or that riffing at 0:36.
Waylaid Street was shorter and easier to digest. Though not really interesting to earn my vote. |
: 044 - Wacky Wheels (Adlib) - Turbo : 213 - Moon Crystal (NES) - Waylaid Street (Stage 2)Jeez, Turbo is completely bouncing off the walls. I'm impressed with how much randomness it's able to convey despite each section sounding exactly the same. It's also a significantly easier listen than Waylaid Street in my book. |
