Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Currently playing: Nothing

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

What else do I listen to?

Ick. Full Throttle (Arc) - Hit and Run sounds terribly out of tune, which is quite an accomplishment with manipulated sine waves. I'm not sure being in tune would help, though. This tune needs some serious Ritalin.

Good thing I wasn't expecting anything like Elliot Goldenthal's score for the film. Alien3 (Gen) - Title Screen, when divorced from its cinematic forebear, has its hits and misses. Some interesting synth effects and rhythm tricks, but the track is a bit scattershot and has what appear to be SFX embedded in it. Embedded SFX just happen to be one of my Seven Deadly Musical Sins, of course.

I prefer Alien Cubed, despite its weaknesses.

Hit and Run more like Hit and Miss. Energetic to a fault, this is Zuntata when it's not good. That little pause is appreciated, though.

Alien's title screen starts off like some DKC track. I don't remember which, but it does. It's better than Hit and Miss lol.

It hit my eardrums, and I ran away. "Hit and Run" had some potential, but it was ruined by it's poor, harsh and distorted sound. Sorry.

Matt Furniss to the rescue! The rhythmic section that can be heard at the start, I like it very much. And so is for all the rest, to make things short! My winner!

I usually take composition into account if it's so good that it increases my overall enjoyment, or if it's horrible to the point of unlistenability. In Hit and Run's case, it's the latter. In it's defense, though, some of the rhythms RBTL were pretty interesting.

Matt Furniss is one of those WTF people you find when you browse and realize that he has a huge track record and he's awesome and I'm voting for this so hard, it's so awesome.

Alright, Alien 3! Good to see it made it in this contest. I thought I was the only one who liked its music. I toyed with the idea of nomming Stage 1 from it (which is my favorite track from the game), but there were too many others out there that I wanted to nominate more. "Title Screen" is pretty solid all the way though. Good tempo, clean drums, awesome guitar melody, and cool effects later that keep the listener's attention to the end.

I never was a big fan of Zuntata. I heard "Hit and Run" and remembered why. Honestly, it could have been a decent piece, had it not been for the screechiness and vacuum-like hollow sound that a lot of Taito (Zuntata) arcades had. Bleh, no thanks.

Alien 3 wins easily.

Matt Furniss was seemingly everywhere on the Sega Genesis. When I was browsing through a lot of music from that system, I concluded Matt Furniss may have possibly made the music for every game on that system. And with his large amounts of experience, it looks like he learned how to make some good tracks. I'm liking Title Screen, something that I wasn't feeling after hearing Hit and Run.

Just keep in mind that a part of them were only conversions. But he still did a lot, and I like his style very much.

Hit and Run's opening made me wonder if something was wrong with my speakers. Everything subsequent was a bit catchy, but otherwise really out of tune...

Alien3 wins it.

Some neat percussions on Hit and Run. And I think the distortions were more a positive thing, than a negative. I could've voted for it but... that rhythmic part in Title Theme's intro kicks ass, and what an atmosphere it creates. Alien sfx FTW.

: 172 - Alien3 (Gen) - Title Screen
: 085 - Full Throttle (Arc) - Hit and Run

Man, I really like Hit and Run. I didn't have any problems with the distortion at all. My problem was really with the repetition more than anything else. Title Screen is delectable, though.
