Pairing XI (D) RE-VOTE

It's been brought to light (see here) that there was a problem with the Mud Level song. The recording was incomplete, so what everyone listened to and voted on was not the actual full song.

So even if you voted on this pairing already, please listen to both songs again, and then make your decision.

For some reason, I didn't even expect this. Though I do expect some to complain that the unheard sections are just superfluous.

Ahh who cares, Mud Level gets another chance.

Umm, if I voted for mud level WITHOUT hearing the whole thing, what makes you think I wouldn't do it for the whole thing?

I don't know, maybe if the new section was filled with horribleness.

Mud Level still sounds shitty to me. Not as horrible as the last version, not much better though. Lots of noise and random notes. Ugh.

Mulk still wins over Mud.

I'm glad Mud Level's been given a second chance. It deserves it. Hope the results turn out better this time.

"Muddy" is definitely an apt descriptor for Project S-11 (GBC) - Mud Level. I have to commend the composer for taking a more experimental approach with the song, and there's definitely a nice melody buried under the muck. But the muddy sound breaks up the song terribly, shattering chords and notes into hundreds of fragments. I can only imagine how beautiful that last bit would be if it were cleaned up.

Battle of the Mu comin' liek wut. Mud had potential and creativity on its side, but blew it. Mulk was more vanilla, but suceeded.
Upon further examination, no additional amount of material can make up for the deficiencies of Mud Level. My previous vote stands.

Also, this is clearly a blatant attempt at vote-rigging by diehard Mud enthusiasts

Uh, holy fuck. What the hell is Project S-11 and where did Mud Level come from. I am torn here. Neither of them should see a first round exit.

Gotta go with the surprise here. Either of these moving on will be one of my favorites to make it in deep.

Hmm, Mud Level won just one vote (it´s 10+1) and looks like that´s enough to advance, since Daddy Mulk apparently suffers from a loss of participation (16-8 votes). Doesn´t look too fair either, considering a minus of 7 votes in total. Not that I would care that much, but if you take a closer look, the revote was a huge disadvantage for Daddy Mulk. Not because the new version of Mud Level convinced so many people of the (disputable fact) that it´s actually the better track, but just for the circumstance that some people didn´t have the time/joy to vote again, whatever track it might have been.

Yeah, but it makes sense. The Mud Level people wanted a re-vote and got it, so they're more aware of it. The DM people might not even realize what happened.

What do you think about me pm'ing everyone who voted in the initial matchup (whether for ML or DM)?

My comments, re-posted:

I'm really liking Mud Level's aggressive tone, so it's a real shame it has to be up against my #1 nom.

I first heard Daddy Mulk in BSC '05 (iirc). I quite liked it, but I'm not sure I appreciated it as fully as I should have. Anyway, somehow I stumbled onto The Ninja Warriors while looking for potential chiptune noms. After finding out there were a bunch of versions of the game and listening to how Daddy Mulk sounded in a few of them, I decided upon the TG-16 version (it was the best one that still sounded chiptune-y, imo).

I'm not sure why I just explained all that. Regardless, Daddy Mulk is an insane song considering it's originally from a 1988 arcade game. Most of the songs from back then were not 4+ minute long works with a good melody, little repetition, and extensive quality soloing mixed in.

I like Mud Level (even moreso now than when I first posted), but DM gets my vote here.

The fact is, there's no good way to handle this. If we try and round up more voters, the Muddietes will call foul. If we don't, only the diehard Muddites will vote.

Since both are public polls, why not just combine the two? If any votes have changed, it will be reflected, but people who weren't aware of the new poll will still be included. Frankly, I don't recall anyone complaining about how abruptly Mud Level ended; most people that voted against it did so because of the basic structure of the track, which is completely independant of its length.

Good proposal I guess. But if Drakken manages to bring everyone who voted in the initial matchup to vote here, it should lead to the same results. Both solutions should work out ok.

There's nothing to apologize about; luckily, the results look like they worked themselves out in the end.

In the future, though, I think that if one of the songs is defective, the existing poll should be kept and the new song uploaded. If people want to change their votes, they can ask a moderator.

Weird turnabout.

And here I thought Daddy Mulk would go far. I've been surprised at a lot of things in this contest.

This isn't necessary of course, but I'm just curious - could the three people who changed their votes explain why they did so? Was it just a matter of Mud Level growing on you or did the added length make the difference?
