Pairing VI (D) - Round 2
Download Links:
092 - Glider Rider (C64) - Title Sendspace link: 204 - Project S-11 (GBC) - Mud Level
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

The toughest pairing for two of the best songs from this bracket thus far. The two totally caught me off guard when I first heard them, and both have begun to grow on me a lot.
Glider Rider has a charming, upbeat quality to it, all packaged in neat C64 style. And then Mud Level comes on sounding all oppressive and raving mad. Like it doesn't give a damn. Mud Level for dissonance. |

I think I voted against Glider Rider the first time around. Admittedly, it grows on me the more I listen to it. However, in my opinion, it takes nearly a minute to get to the really good part, whereas I like Mud Level all the way through. I'm still floored by how that track just came out of nowhere.

Like all C64 tunes, Glider Rider (C64) - Title has more trills than DS9. In thi case, the fragmented melody and rather blasé rhythm can't make up for the annoying trillage and SFX. Granted, the song does get better as it progresses.
Project S-11 (GBC) - Mud Level didn't do it for me last round, mostly because the tune's solid melody was undone by terrible, muddy execution. I hold to that. Not feeling either of these; I'll vote for the underdog. Title. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

Title is sleek, and actually has some similarities to Mud Level. However, Mud Level is one of the most original chiptunes I've heard; either from stunning production values, or some experienced chiptune composer. Which doesn't make sense really. I think I've listened to Mud Level more than any track in the contest, and while it's not my favorite in the contest, I would like to see this track, above all others here, in BSC07 and see what happens. |

^_^ Another chance to listen to "Mud Level". Like I said last round (which was a strange one, wasn't it?), this track's grown on me. I like it immensely now. "Title" ain't so hot.

Both songs have been pleasant surprises in this contest. I don't really like Mud Level until it really gets going later in the song though, whereas I love Title all the way through. So this time I'll be giving Title a vote. It looks as if Mud Level is gonna edge out a great song for the second round in a row though.

Project S-11 - Mud Level - Best song of bracket D
Glider Rider - Title - 12th best song of bracket D Mud Level is still impressing me, and I must have listened to it dozens of times by now. I'm wondering when it's wow factor is going to fade. Title has grown on me some, it started out as not bad, but one of my least favorite C64 competitors. While it still has its lulls here and there, definitely better than I gave it credit for in round one. It's not entirely out of Mud Level's league, I guess it wouldn't be a Greek tragedy for it to squeak out a hard fought victory here, but I'm throwing my vote the other way in hopes that doesn't happen. ![]() |

Title . . . yeah, the good bit is RBTL. When the shitty-weird intro comes back.
Mud Level is pure fucking gold. |
