Rocket Knight Adventures (Gen) - Stage 1-1 has a terrific melody and a nice militaristic feel to it. That, coupled with some generally strong development, makes it a keeper.
The Great Giana Sisters (C64) - Loading Theme has got some nice rhythm and (gasp) lacks annoying trills. The melody isn't quite up to snuff, though. Pretty close, but I'll take the melody of Rocket Knight over the Rhythm of Giana Sisters by a hair.  From goop we came, to goop we return.

Rocket Knight Adventures - Stage 1-1 - 3rd best song of bracket D The Great Giana Sisters - Loading Theme - 5th best song of bracket D The Rocket Knight track does not just have an outstanding melody, pacing and feel, it is also one of the rare examples of songs in this contest to excel due in part to being a chiptune. You take that track and advance its sound or perform it live and the charm is certainly lost. This is an advantage is has over Loading Theme. This Hülsbeck theme is awfully easy to like as well, but in spite of its sound. That was more of an observation than a deciding factor, I just like the sort of song Stage 1-1 is better here. They're both fine tracks. Fingers crossed the winner doesn't match up against Mud Level next round.  |
