1:05 to 1:36 of Blue Pirates is nice, but that's it. I was one of the... 9 people to vote against this track the first round, and I don't regret that decision at all (actually it's because I really like Ultimate Koopa
) Enter Serenia would probably be awesome if I was in the mood for it. Oh what the hell... Yeah, this is really good. Vote. |
|
This is a super super hard choice. I love how Blue Pirates shifts in and out of different percussion variations... but.... Serenia. There *was* a reason why I stayed there and did *nothing* for the longest time in Myst IV. It was the music. And... argh.
I won't be sad if Blue Rogues moves on ahead, but I have to vote for Serenia. When I was going by memory of Serenia, and while listening to Blue Rogues I thought I could vote for it... but... after hearing Enter Serenia again, and fully remembering why I love this piece... It's not so much the intro (though I generally melt at these type of vocals in a piece), but it's when hearing everything else build in after about... :42, I think... and it just keeps building after that. Yeah. It was a very tough choice, but one of my all-time favorites won out.

Blue Pirates SOARS through this round and further with ease. And its not just a coincidence that is an Airship Theme. And arguably the best rpg ever made, not that that would influence the vote.
Serenia decent though. Myst always has some good stuff. (Kavanaugh hands out a piece of gum) Aceveda: No thank you. Kavanaugh: Nah come on this is a fresh pack, it's Juicy Fruit. (Aceveda stares at him for three seconds...)Aceveda: I said no...thank you. (holds it out still) Kavanaugh: hold this out long enough some people feel compelled to take the gum, it's a sign they'll crack under pressure. Aceveda: (with a smug look) I know. - The Shield Jon Kavanaugh: "He's just PISSING all over this department, and we're just supposed to lick it up! Do you like the way that tastes? (Lifts his hand up to his mouth) Because it tastes like.....PISS to me!" - The Shield |

158 Eternal Arcadia — Blue Pirates (Rogues) Ship (G)
181 Myst IV Revelation — Enter Serenia (D) Blue Pirates Ship is a cool track, very sweet so to speak. It is just one out of the many very awesome Eternal Arcadia songs. And it's not even repetitive or something like that Enter Serenia is pretty good as well, I am not sure if you couldn't say that the sound quality is a bit bad, but it has a nice melody. Quite a difficult decision, but I guess that in the end, I want Blue Pirates Ship to advance.![]() Shushkevich sued the Belarusian Ministry of Labor and Social Security: due to inflation, his retirement pension as a former head of state was the equivalent of one dollar and 80 cents monthly. |

Cromulent words aside, these are both great pieces. However, since I predict light and happy will will reign over somber and atmospheric (well, this time, anyway...oh, File Select, you will be missed), I'll throw my weight behind the considerable Serenia for what I'm guessing will be the last time.
DAMN good coffee!

I still can't get over how it's an arcadia track that horrible mastering DOESN'T fuck up. Was this a DC rip of the OST or was the GC version of this track just not mixed horribly, cuz this is good shit that doesn't hurt my ears.
Serenia, though is WOW. It is UTTER wow. It is VOTE GET. |

Hard choice here. Enter Serenia sounds like just another relaxing song and I only really like when the strings come in at the end around 2:40. Blue Pirates (Rogues) Ship sounds like another happy airship song.
I'm going to go with Enter Serenia for the bells, chimes and whistles it provides (minus whistling of any sort). Edit: Ooh dead even! Spoiler:

I overlooked Serenia last time because Arena really had the goods. Here it has a little even matchup, and the choice is a tougher one. But Serenia is the pick now, just to prove that well-done ambient music still has a place in this world.

Why must these two tracks be paired?
I guess Round 2 is turning out to be tougher than I expected. These two tracks are great and should move on into the next round. I really like the adventurous streak of "Blue Pirates (Rogues) Ship" but "Enter Serenia" is much too beautiful. Love the melody and the lushness of the track. Only gripe is the encoding quality; it can be a bit shrill. Surely there's a better version of the song that will do it more justice? (The game rip version I have sounds a tad cleaner)
I think therefore I am... I think.

The GC version sound in game was totally fucked up. They made it 10x worse. Everyone knows this. This is why this is the DC version. I know.
And its a travesty that its 1 down. (Kavanaugh hands out a piece of gum) Aceveda: No thank you. Kavanaugh: Nah come on this is a fresh pack, it's Juicy Fruit. Travesty averted...I just tied it. Skies of Arcadia as a whole doesn't do a lot for me, but when the great tracks come up, they flat out rock. I vaguely remember this ingame, but I like it lots.
Myst, on the other hand...I have yet to hear something that rises above "slightly below average" from anything in the entire series. This track is zero exception.

Eternal Arcadia — Blue Pirates (Rogues) Ship
I guess it's kind of typical for pirate/sky/ship themes. In addition, I am very accessible for such stuff. Myst IV Revelation — Enter Serenia Actually a few parts easily outshines Blue Pirates, but others render it more understated than necessary. hehe, the waving sounds later on (starting 1:46 ) reminds me of the track in FF VI where you stream down the river. I am giving Myst IV a chance here. |
|
Eternal Arcadia — Blue Pirates (Rogues) Ship isn't an OST highlight, but has plenty of the soaring orchestral majesty I've come to expect, nay, demand from Arcadia. The composers who wrote this really need to get more work.
Myst IV Revelation — Enter Serenia is far more subtle and delicate, and like all Myst tracks is highly ambient. Still, the interplay of the vocals and their backing instruments is incredibly lovely, and like all Myst music, this tune is heavily underrated by people with short attention spans. Myst, Myst, Myst. I'm surprised you made it this far, but it looks like you'll go no futher. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

Yeah, all Maeda has done really is Panzer Dragoon Saga, PDOrta, and Sonic Heroes. I can't even find info on the other guy.
