6.5/10 Breakthrough
The opening is tiny bit repeititive, but the melody makes up for it by using a classical type of composition that ends up sounding well built. In this case, the complexity of the surrounding rhythm plus the mix of multiple melodies in once makes this song sound pretty good. I'm especially amazed by 1:48 (the bridge). 0/10 Breeze In Monochrome Night Sorry, I'm not interested in this song despite it's complex piano rhythm that becomes evident in this passage. I'll be honest, if I can't find the theme of an ambient song, for me it's not going to be worth bothering. The words at the end of the song only compound the reasons I don't like this song. (and note that a 0/10 means anything thats 5/10 or lower on my previous scale). |

I'm pretty surprised Monochrome Night has made it this far. I'm giving the vote to the still-enjoyable Breakthrough because Monochrome is the lesser piece again, but to be brutally honest I'd vote End Credits over either.
DAMN good coffee!

220 Silent Hill 3 — Breeze In Monochrome Night (D)
228 Drag-On Dragoon 2 — Breakthrough (C) Breeze in Monochrome Night is too ambient. I think I voted for it last time since I thought it's one of the better ambient tracks in the contest, but uhh, now that it faces Breakthrough, a totally awesome tune, it must die, I guess. Breakthrough is everything I want a song to be. Powerful, exciting and it GOES SOMEWHERE! The bells at 2:17 are super ![]() ![]() Shushkevich sued the Belarusian Ministry of Labor and Social Security: due to inflation, his retirement pension as a former head of state was the equivalent of one dollar and 80 cents monthly. |

Breakthrough has gotten my vote over and over again. Up until now. It's great as hell, with those psycho string runs, but I'll be damned if the piano section of Monochrome Night isn't better than the entirety of Breakthrough.
Plus there's some great ambient guitar work. |

I love breeze. I just can't get enough of the piano, especially once it starts going at 1:56. This is an awesome song for listening to late at night. I removed the speaking at the end of the song, btw; it makes it better.
The fast and fierece Breakthrough is neat, but it's not something I'd want to listen to all the time. I'd have to be in a certain kind of mood for it. I dunno, it just seems harsh on my ears right now for some reason. My vote: breeze - in monochrome night
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to?

Breakthrough is a song that I would absolutely love to hear live, but it's just not the kind of music I listen to on my computer. Way too fast and aggressive!

I don't even really think of Breeze as ambient. I guess it applies. I too am more inclined to write off ambient tracks that just lie there like my last girlfriend -- but jeez, Breeze has a lot more going on than static tinkling bells and wind noises.
And frankly, Breakthrough's never really floored me. |

"Breakthrough" is an alright Drag-on-Dragoon 2 track but there are a number of sections I'm not terribly fond of. There are certainly better pieces from the soundtrack. Like "Vein of Grief". "Breeze" is, on the other hand, very beautiful. The piano melody is really great. Don't quite see how the track isn't going anywhere. It does and develops very nicely towards the end at that. One of the easier votes for me in the contest.
I think therefore I am... I think.
