005 - Preludio -For All You FF Lovers- - Temple At the Bottom of the Sea ~ Chaos Temple

Okay guitar remix backed by decent quality syth. The first half is a bit repetitive, and gets a little boring. This was quite well done, but not more than above average.

017 - OC Remix - BigShellWestBristol

An amazing, professional sounding trip hop remix. Totally blows away everything else in the bracket in terms of sheer quality.

135 - OC Remix - Zebesian Midnight

A rather sharp new-age remix of the source material. Retains the same feel of the original, while adding a lot to it. Felt the instrument quality seemed to drop off after the introduction, so it came off as a bit uneven.

190 Piano Fantasy - Still of the Night

Really good remix. The original piece was very minimalist, so this is quite fleshed out while keeping the same haunting feel of the source. The vocals are decent, but nothing spectacular. I would have voted for this if BigShell wsn't so darned good.

"Still of the Night" was pretty solid too; no hate there.

Preludio, I agreed with the criticisms, but it was still pretty good. Would like to see what they can do nowadays.

Yep. An amazing remix, this barely scraped by removal from OC ReMix a few years ago due to the high amount of direct sampling from the original, and that GetaRide22 drumloop. Luckily for BenCousins there was a surprising amount of substance in the instrumentation that wasn't lifted from the original tune and still arranged the original. Backstory aside, a gorgeous track and some really effective sampling.

"Zebesian Midnight" is over 4 years old and still a top-flight arrangement. If only BigViolationWestBristol wasn't here, I would have voted for this in a heartbeat. The great thing about Vigilnate is that even though he rarely puts out material, it's always high quality when he releases new material. It's definitely my second place track, but I'm with Big Shell all the way.

Big Shell is the sort of good that'd turn me away from voting for my own nomination if it was up against it.
Why didn't he just...

Pretty neat group: I ended going for BigShellWestBristol for its uniqueness. Still of the Night enhanced on the original with a soothing but desolate atmosphere. Zebresian Midnight was a bit drawn out, but is another fine track with a good lounge feeling. Temple At the Bottom of the Sea ~ Chaos Temple is one of the more catchy upbeat tracks.

Dunno whatīs the deal with BigShellWestBristol, it just goes on forever (what? - itīs only 4 minutes?), always the same phrase over and over again. No thanks.

I kinda dig Still of the Night, despite its japanese vocals, Zebesian Midnight is decent as well. However, gotta go with Temple at the Bottom of the Sea which is pure gold.

Still of the Night isn't too bad, but I wasn't feeling the repetition. Vocals fit the track rather nicely.

Temple At the Bottom of the Sea ~ Chaos Temple is a pretty good rock cover, although a bit repetitive. Can't say no to the solos.

Zebesian Midnight is a mix I can just get lost in. In a good way. Very chill and sexy.

BigShellWestBristol wins the dead sexy award hands down, though. Major sampling, but it all works wonderfully. I especially love the THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP at 3:10. Wonderful atmosphere and execution.

Yeah, that about sums it up. Bigshell is just emo phrases w/backbeats to me and more than a little boring. Temple is still an amazing arrange that holds a lot of magic from the first time I heard Preludio.

Some good lixx here. Not a fan of the noodly solos, but they're a small percentage of the whole.

017 OC Remix - BigShellWestBristol
Not sure what to expect from this one given the praise above; I have to admit that I wondered if we were listening to the same song. Frankly, I was bored by everything but a few of the original vocal runs.

135 OC Remix - Zebesian Midnight
Mellow and pleasant enough, but a little dull. Might have been good at half the length.

190 Piano Fantasy - Still of the Night
Not as much piano as I expected from "Piano Fantasy." The vocals were surprisingly tolderable, lacking that "shrill 12-year-old" quality that mars a lot of Japanese singing, but the song would have been much better without it.

I was actually kind of surprised by Still, enough so to give it the nod in a rather meh match.

I also don't see why BigShellWestBristol is getting so much love. It's just really boring and repetitive with vocals that didn't appeal to me at all. Easy choice for Preludio but Zebesian Midnight was a close second.

Preludio -For All You FF Lovers- - Temple At the Bottom of the Sea ~ Chaos Temple
There's something about Preludio that makes me think it's just average without standing out too much. No exception with this track in particular. It doesn't try to go for anything daringly different or exciting despite the rock instruments.

OC Remix - BigShellWestBristol
I can totally see the hit or miss nature of this song. Randomly, this strikes me more as soothing and laid back, rather than boring and repetitive. Definite points for uniqueness.

OC Remix - Zebesian Midnight
Somewhat vanilla. I prefer the creepy Melee version, as well as the hard riffs of the Metroid Metal version.

Piano Fantasy - Still of the Night
A decidedly average song. Nothing to set it apart.
