Nom bias. Me bias. The Lady bias. Yay! "GIANTSQUID vs. Killer Seals" was just a fun track. This was made before Christian Pacaud joined Ubisoft, and as funny as the track was to me, I thought it, along with his other tracks from the Misstik Kwest OLR project, also showed off a great deal of range, even for non-serious pieces. It was a pleasure to be sampled it in. "It's got black niggas, bitch!"

"Blue Vision" also a classic arrangement, one that doesn't change the character of the arrangement, but personalizes the track with that electrosynth flavor.

"Piano Quartet Boss Battle Medley" definitely holds up well with Reuben Kee's multitracked piano approach; feels a bit rough, but the execution was ok. Couple of spots of clipping and roughness in the sound. Reuben's death last month at only 23 was an utter tragedy. It's such a shame we won't hear any of his ideas in the future.

MTS's track was too cheesy for my tastes, with weak samples, which was too bad since this source tune is good. This wasn't bad all all, particularly the more orchestrated sounding sections, but I didn't see what the big deal on this was.
Why didn't he just...

The fact that I know the source material here didn't help Blue Vision at all. While it is a bit different, the appeal basically remains the same.
As it is, YOU'RE GONNA GET RAEP'D for BIG LULZ TIME.

: 140 - Overlooked Remix - GIANTSQUID vs. Killer Seals
: 171 - OC Remix - Blue Vision
: 222 - VGMix - Piano Quarter Boss Battle Medley
: 235 - CADENZA Gayakuten Saiban 1 - Victory! ~ The First Victory

Victory! ~ The First Victory is too bland and repetitive.

Piano Quarter Boss Battle Medley is one of Kee's signature four piano arrangements, but he has ones that sound smoother than this. A bit messy and muddy at times, especially at the end.

Blue Vision is a little less bland and repetitive.

I think Toyota Disco better shows off Liontamer's amazing vocal talents, but GIANTSQUID vs. Killer Seals still gives you the angelic flavor. AS BIG AS BOXCARS

Just noting a few more thing regarding "GIANT SQUID", I really liked the more relaxed take on the theme compared with how fast-paced it was in FFMQ. Also, all the voice clips feature little music bits that you can hear in the background. Those are from the Pac-Man 2 SPC set, which I used as background music for that episode of VG Frequency way back when. I hadn't even released an MP3 of that show what Christian came out with this arrangement, and I still don't know how he got a hold of the recording. He must have recorded it himself. The Homer Simpson-like "oooooooh" I did in there as well as "action and beats!" were highlights for me. Either way, lots of fun and "vvvvery niiiice". A testament to CPac's creativity and skill more than my black ass.

140 - Overlooked Remix - GIANTSQUID vs. Killer Seals
Blech. Too much talk, not enough music.

171 - OC Remix - Blue Vision
Ugh, I remember the source of this. Never understood its popularity, and while the remix adds a bit more layers to the simplistic composition, it's still kinda boring.

222 - VGMix - Piano Quarter Boss Battle Medley
Ah, another tune from the recently deceased mixer. Maybe the tragedy makes the music seem better, but I've liked what I've heard of his work so far. Excellent, complex piano arrangement.

235 - CADENZA Gayakuten Saiban 1 - Victory! ~ The First Victory
Much better than the short and hyper-repetitive original, but still a little thin for four minutes of runtime.

Piano Quarter gets it here.
From goop we came, to goop we return.

Agreed. Also, joke tracks and me don't mix well at all.

OC Remix - Blue Vision
Not particularly captivated by the electronic nature of the song, but it's decent.

VGMix - Piano Quarter Boss Battle Medley
OH YES. Frigging beautiful, and it's really awesome that someone finally includes the FF IX boss theme in a remix. Listening to all the boss themes weave into each other is both nostalgic and awe-inspiring. I would very much love to find a transcription or sheet music for this ^_^ Instant vote, and download of course. There is no contest in this bracket.

>:s Fanfares of any kind are too celebratory for my taste.

TIEBREAKIN'

Overlooked Remix - GIANTSQUID vs. Killer Seals - This has a high "novelty" level, but it's also very amusing. I openly chuckled several times. I enjoyed the hipster vibe, though it's really more of a spoken word track than it is purely musical.

OC Remix - Blue Vision - This is right up my alley. I'm a sucker for spacey synths and soft, flowing progressions. I'll acknowledge that Blue Vision isn't a high scorer for originality, though. Despite this, the rest is very pleasing and I'll surely go download the un-mp3gained track.

Though my personal leanings are for the downtempo trance, I'm going to throw my vote at GIANTSQUID. It's got character and originality in spades. Those are the traits that I feel should elevate tracks beyond the first round of voting, and are to be valued above the "safe" nature of its competition. Doujin is about experimenting and breaking new ground. GIANTSQUID does this well.
