The other three noms are pretty tough calls, all very well made. Visa Roster is one of those instant legends in the Commodore arrangement community. But of course, since there are vocals, this arrangement is evil! Oh wait, there are no lyrics, so it's OK! Just using the rationale of the STUPID. "Armageddon Man" is awesome. Given how few elements were in play, even one of them being off would have hurt the track substantially. That just doesn't happen here. If they hadn't have been here, I would have given it to "Soap and Water" in a heartbeat, as that one is a top-flight track around OCR. Different bracket, I would have given this creative mix the nod. Same with "motor crazycycle"; awesome stuff, impeccably conceived and executed, but because it's hard electronica (OMG), it'll never make it far. While I like this though, I love "Armageddon Man".

 : 081 - Commodore 64 Vocally - Armageddon Man : 254 - Voices of the Lifestream - motor crazycycle : 115 - OC Remix - Mega Man 2 Soap and Water : 036 - Pastel Fantasy Zone Arrange - Boss ~ Ya-Da-YoI love Fantasy Zone's music, but man is Boss ~ Ya-Da-Yo weak. Doesn't help that the main arranged theme, the normal boss theme, is one of the game's worst. The little snippets of Ya-Da-Yo and the shop theme don't do much to relieve the boredom. Soap and Water is creative, but not really in same league as the next two arrangements. Very chill with no weak moments. motor crazycycle is in fact the best track from Voices of the Lifestream, and it has the highest asskicking quotient of any other arrangement in the contest. Lower-fi than usual, but tefnek still makes it sound great with his wizardry. Mix owns you from start to finish. I've given a long and hard thought to voting motor crazycycle over my own nomination in this match, but in the end, I have to vote for Visa Röster's best mix, Armageddon Man. They usually do a capella mixes, but AM is a solo vocal with light accompaniment, and every little thing is absolutely perfect. The vocals are beautiful, even when they take a turn toward the scat in the second half. The piano could easily have been simplistic and repetitive, but it stays interesting and well composed throughout. The bass and percussion in the second half could similarly have just kept the time, but care was put into both to complete the jazz turn. Wonderful mix. |

036 - Pastel Fantasy Zone Arrange - Boss ~ Ya-Da-Yo
Some nice ballad guitar at the beginning, but it gets much less interesting as it goes along. 081 - Commodore 64 Vocally - Armageddon Man Hard to beleive that this had its start as a SID! Nice piano, jazzy vocals, the complete package. Impressive. 115 - OC Remix - Mega Man 2 Soap and Water Languid, synthy Bubble Man mix. I thought I'd hate it at first, but it's quite good despite taking the song in a very different direction. 254 - Voices of the Lifestream - motor crazycycle A little too harsh and repetitive for me. The melody's buried under layers and layers of ear-grating sound design. Armageddon Man's the clear winner for me, here.  2008 NaNoWriMo Word Count: 33004/50000 |

Pastel Fantasy Zone Arrange - Boss ~ Ya-Da-Yo
Messy guitar and percussive samples kind of grate on my ears in this case. I think the dated instrumentation kills it for me. Commodore 64 Vocally - Armageddon Man I guess I'm just not in the mood for this kind of song. Just another laid back tune with a hint of jazz. OC Remix - Mega Man 2 Soap and Water See above comment minus jazz. Voices of the Lifestream - motor crazycycle I'm liking it, although some parts could do better. It might be contrary to the comment about Ya Da Yo, but I'm liking the noisy drums here.  Constellational, Bear Trap Utilizing, Legendary Hero, Galactic Bunny Wizard
