Touhou, cool approach to that source tune, which I first heard of via Perfect Cherry Blossom "Icy Peaks" at OC ReMix. While I would have liked a more melodic approach, this had a pretty good, decidedly subdued groove.
"Scourge" has gotta take it though. The other two rock track are definitely good, but "Scourge" a top-tier medley for a reason. All things equal, "1691" had more substance.

207 - Project Chaos - Walk On Water
Funky, which isn't normally my style. But there's some undeniably fun stuff here. 226 - Metroid Metal - Brinstar The last Metroid Metal piece surprised me with its quality; This one isn't nearly as good, but it isn't wholly bad either. 256 - Cradle Touhou Gegakushiden - Paradise ~ Deep Mountain I'm afraid I didn't see much here; just your standard techno loops. 158 - Unchosen Paths - Scourge of 1691 Some decent rock opera stuff out of the gate, but it just keeps going and going. It takes a lot to keep my interest over twelve minutes, and the song doesn't pass muster there, though there are some nice sections to be sure. I think I'll toss Project Chaos a vote, since it was something of a pleasant surprise.  2008 NaNoWriMo Word Count: 33004/50000 |

 : 207 - Project Chaos - Walk On Water : 158 - Unchosen Paths - Scourge of 1691 : 256 - Cradle Touhou Gegakushiden - Paradise ~ Deep Mountain : 226 - Metroid Metal - BrinstarThe main part of Brinstar was not bad, although a bit unremarkable. I liked the ending, though, if only for the contrast with the rest of the mix. The background noises in Paradise ~ Deep Mountain, the spring and short vocal clip, threw me off on the first listen because I thought they were coming from an ad in another browser window or something. Took me a little bit to realize they were actually on tempo. Definitely feeling the overall groove, although I think the restart at 5:45 was unnecessary. Could've ended right there. Scourge of 1691 is a megamix I can get behind. The tracks are mostly well integrated, and there's enough personalization in there to keep it from being just the same old CV guitar stuff. Walk on Water takes it for me because of the style in the arrangement. Just has more flavor than anything else in this match. |

Darn, that´s one of the matchups I´d REALLY like to spend two votes because there are two tracks I equally love.
That said I´ll have to decide between Walk On Water and Scourge of 1691. The first one is so darn catchy it´s hard to resist voting for it, the second one is a very decent Castlevania medley (I nominated a goat-medley myself, which should speak for itself) that I´d love to see in the next round as well. Voting for Scourge of 1691 cuz it hast a bit more to offer.

These are delicious. I will eat them all.
Thought Walk on Water would be a lock, but the Touhou track surprised the hell out of me and 1691 is just a monster (so voted). Brinstar takes fourth, but it was still good. I'm just not all that into Metroid music.  |

Project Chaos - Walk On Water
Indeed a groovy and pleasant surprise. I was even more surprised at the tempo increase halfway through! Metroid Metal - Brinstar I don't like Brinstar in particular, so by no fault of Metroid Metal, it's really just the source. Rather close to the original, without much daring to try something radically different. Cradle Touhou Gegakushiden - Paradise ~ Deep Mountain Classsified under standard techno/dance. Decidedly average. Unchosen Paths - Scourge of 1691 Not bad, but it goes on for very long. :/  Constellational, Bear Trap Utilizing, Legendary Hero, Galactic Bunny Wizard |
