This one is tearing me apart. Premonition is a fine track, but how much of it is being carried on the wings of its sublime source track (yes, there was a pun in there). Meanwhile, given its C64 heritage, I'm sure Armageddon Man transcends all original design. That's probably enough to elevate it for me.

Armageddon Man takes a while to really take off, but the sound takes a turn for the sublime after the percussion kicks in. Not totally in love, but like Chuckster I admire that such a serene song could come out of a C64 melody. I guess I think of C64 game music as mostly upbeat melodies that get stuck in your head for weeks, and this is almost the opposite.
Premonition is fantastic, but it's also just a rehashed version of the wonderful source track. While it's not really inventive, in this case the source is so good that I can't help but have a hard time deciding... I'll give it to Armageddon Man for packing more originality (seemingly). Plus, we've already got Dragon Song, a great arrangement that takes me much higher than Premonition. |

Yeah, if anything hurts "Premonition", it's that the arrangement isn't particularly interesting compared to the original and it's repetitive. Not sure why it's even close vs. Armageddon Man.

Props to whoever nominated Armageddon Man. This is such a jewel and yet many folks still haven't heard of it or RKO; it certainly would've been among my top nominations.
I have the feeling that short-listeners (i.e. those who decide which is better before hearing the entirety of the songs) may be leaning this vote towards Premonition. Because while Premonition starts off strong, it seems to lose steam by halfway through. Whereas halfway through Armageddon Man, it's energy is still building (beautifully), unreleased. If Armageddon Man is eliminated on the second round... ...I think I might just cry. ![]() ![]() A light on the water... all souls pass... |

Essence is the cream of the SoM doujin crop, and Premonition is a terrific mix that takes the original in a dark and acoustic direction. Those are two of my favorite song adjectives, right there. 081 - Commodore 64 Vocally - Armageddon Man Another dark track, this one with acoustics of a different sort--vocals. I find it all but impossible to beleive that this started as a warbly old SID--it's really swell. Very tough choice. If there wasn't a built-in bias giving Premonition a small edge, I'd be flipping coins here. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.
