Speed Metal Symphony has GUITAR GAME MAX DIFFICULTY written all over it. Not my thing, but still pretty impressive. The lack of words makes this choice that much easier.
Eyes of a Stranger has 80'S MOVIE MONTAGE written all over it. The very end was especially hilarious/awful.

As much as I never understood or appreciated the metal genre's usage of Baroque pastiche in their music, I can appreciate the skill of craft in "Speed Metal Symphony". I just wish they'd utilize their sources better.
The other song is just bad to listen to. |

Good god. Nerd rock.
Neither. |

Wow, I couldn't stand that dude's voice in Eyes of a Stranger. Metal stuff it is.

I don't really like Cacophony (although I admit I've only listened to one of their albums (and apparently they released more?)), but "Speed Metal Symphony" is decent if a bit tedious, IMO. It'll get my reluctant support because "Eyes of a Stranger" was honestly kind of lame.

They released two albums: Speed Metal Symphony and Go Off. Then Jason Becker went and joined David Lee Roth and Marty Friedman joined Megadeth.
I guess Eyes of a Stranger loses some of its' impact being away from the Operation Mindcrime album. I thought it made a good closing for the storyline (well, at least until you consider they made Operation Mindcrime II later on!) I'm good with either one here...I like both of these about the same.

Speed Metal Symphony is dull. It drags on too long, has no massively impressive feats of guitar foolishness and given the name, isn't even that fast. If you're going to nominate stuff like this, why not pick something like Play With Me by Extreme? It has lyrics, a more impressive solo and having featured heavily on the Bill and Ted soundtrack, would have won the nostalgia vote.
Queensryche on the other hand sound like a really bad Iron Maiden tribute band. I'm willing to bet real money that the video for this track featured the band wearing baroque outfits, standing in a ruined castle during a storm and possibly some horse riding. The whole tune is a laughable justification of every stereotype I applied to the genre in the discussion thread. If you wanted to nominate something that sounds like Maiden, why not nominate a Maiden tune? Run to the hills was in last year but that still leaves you with shit loads of tunes better than this pile of crap, even just off the Number of the Beast album. Hallowed be thy name or Number of the beast would be my first choices. I'm amazed that when forced to curtail your metal selections to just four, you wasted two choices on these two abominations. I'm voting for Eyes of a stranger, purely because it has comedy value for managing to be quite so awful whereas Speed Metal Din is just plain boring. ![]() |

I'm glad I don't particularly like Cacophony because any slobbering metal fanboy would be obsessed over this CLASSIC CLASH OF THE TITANS. Queensr˙che wins in spite of Becker having been a pretty stunning musician.

Queensr˙che songs DO NOT work out of the context of the album. (They're not that good IN it either, though.) Cacophony is a bit tame. If you go crazy with arpeggios and insane stunts, you might as well try imitating Symphony X, the best of this kind.
I don't feel like voting for either one. I'll just close my eyes and click around. ![]() |

I find the singing style of the guy from Queensryche to be just horrible; it's just too goddamned predictable. Could care less about this pairing actually, and i don't even hate metal.
Music is a mysterious thing. Sometimes it makes people remember things they do not expect. Many thoughts, feelings, memories... things almost forgotten... Regardless of whether the listener desires to remember or not.

Eyes of a Stranger turned out not to be that song from Walker, Texas Ranger, and as a consequence it must be punished.
We can die heroically, comically, ironically, sadly, suddenly, slowly, disgustingly, charmingly or from a great height.

Queensryche isn't as bad as all the indie-fags are making them out to be, but Kishin nailed my thoughts precisely: "Eyes of a Stranger" was part of a concept album that was greater than the sum of its parts. Taken out of that album's context, the song is merely another pseudo-glam metal track and cannot truly be appreciated for the closing punctuation it brought to the "Operation Mindcrime" album.
I wasn't expecting a whole lot from "Speed Metal Symphony" but was surprised that it held its own. I'm not a huge fan of the genre but individual specimens can still capture my interest and the Cacaphony track succeeded. It was fast and meedly meedly, for sure, but not in a way that was bothersome. Consider it downloaded. |

I flipped a coin for this one. Cacophony got it.
