D003 - I Believe vs My Completeness

Hmm, neither tune is particularly inspiring. The Simian Mobile Disco song is too much of a mixup of styles without doing any of the constituents very well. Thirsty Merc suffer from sounding like just another Sum 182 or Alien Blink Farm teen rock band but I think in this instance, they have the better song.

This is a moderately tough pairing, as I'm unsure which one I'd really go for. "I Believe" has a good beat and flow going into it, but "My Completeness" has a nice melodiousness to it.
I think melody wins here. ![]() Classic J-Pop Volume 22 |

Thirsty Merc sounds quite unoriginal and trite. Simian Mobile Disco really has a lot going for them.

"I Believe" was a surprise. It had a nice beat to it, fairly linear at times, but semi-enjoyable.
"My Completeness" has a great opening and I wouldn't have minded that overall style throughout it. Once the rock came in, it definitely became a bit more generic, but it was still enjoyable. "My Completeness" will get my vote this time. |

Ugh, all around. Monkey Disco Band is really repetitive and tired. I'd have to be fucked out of my mind to listen to it, and the other band starts out all Smoking Popes and then goes flat. Disappointment all around, but I guess the shitty teen idol band wins here. I guess.

I believe that I could stand to listen to "I Believe" several more times and not be upset about it.
As for "My Completeness," get this tweenage bullshit off my computer. Whine, whine, whine. Grow some balls, assfuck singer person. |

While i'm not a big fan of the subject matter of the Thirsty Merc track, I thought the music behind the words was somewhat interesting. Actually, I felt the same way about I Believe, what with its infectiously nasal bass-line. Simian Disco.
Music is a mysterious thing. Sometimes it makes people remember things they do not expect. Many thoughts, feelings, memories... things almost forgotten... Regardless of whether the listener desires to remember or not.

I actually enjoyed I Believe quite a bit even though both tracks aren't really working too well for me here. On one hand, we have Fluke without the whispery delivery of Mike Bryant and then we have a song that otherwise sounds identical to Over The Counter Culture with whiny bitch singing.
Guess what? I enjoy Fluke a hell of a lot more. |

Simian Mobile has been an on-again off-again kind of thing with me, but I'll hop back on for this tune. It's not the best of theirs, but its agreeable, at least, which is more than I can say for that other nonsense.
