D007 - Timber vs Wooody Wooodpecker
Coldcut - Timber (Download it!) Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: VS Dan Deacon - Wooody Wooodpecker (Download it!) Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: We can die heroically, comically, ironically, sadly, suddenly, slowly, disgustingly, charmingly or from a great height.

From listening to that tune, I can only assume Dan Deacon is 11 years old and autistic, and not in a way that gives him special magic music powers.
Timber is a great tune (I would say that though, I nominated it) and I picked it mainly because it's one of the more accessible ambient trance tunes I own, there's a chance some of you might be familiar with it and it's less than ten minutes long. I'm anticipating a tide of comments calling it either rave or new age or equally silly things but if you guys can move beyond definitions and genre titles and actually listen to both tunes, I'd like to think that unless your synapses are wired funny you'll agree with me that Timber is the far superior tune here. ![]() |

I lol'd when Ah! Amoeba nominated Woody Woodpecker because I knew people wouldn't receive it too well, but I reckon it's awesome and it has a lot more character than the other bland option.

I don't think my attention span is short enough to appreciate Timber. That said, I know Woody Woodpecker is a joke nomination (please, let it be a joke nomination) but it's not a good joke nomination. It's a shitty joke nomination. The kind of joke someone tells you and you don't want to make them feel bad, so you sort of smile and give a half-hearted chuckle. It is at this point that you realize you're reinforcing their behaviour, and immediately regret your decision to spare their feelings.

Yeah... Timber gets this win pretty much by default, I think. Go not the woodpecker track.

Both of these songs were a pain to sit through. The first being a snore fest (yet another one), the second likened to slamming my head on a wall.
I would have to go with sleeping and completely forgetting that I've listened to that song rather than the head smashing. |

Ever since Coldcut Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid In Full", I've been a huge fan of their particular quirky brand of breakbeats. Timber is a pretty awesome track in any case and, even though Wooody Wooodpecker actually manages to get going at some point, it becomes a jumbled mess that I have a hard time finding a melodic pattern in.

I've come to like Woody Woodpecker as I've listened to the album more, and really appreciate it for what it is, but I've got to say it was an odd choice for a contest like this. The Crystal Cat or Wham City would have fared much better.

Not really, Diss. =/ My joke nomination is coming next round (cringe). Obviously I didn't expect this song to go very far, but the point was more to nominate something quirky and different.

Just thought I'd chime in to express my appreciation of the Coldcut tune. Quality stuff, this. I'll definitely be looking into this artist's discography~
