As much as I loathe Billy Joel as schlock, this isn't a bad song overall.
"Played a Live", now that I think of it, a lot of trance songs have rather similar structure to them, and the meter and key doesn't vary much either. I suppose the consistency is necessary for clubs where the playlist must keep on the same level to maintain the atmosphere, but I would think dance clubs wouldn't mind a more eclectic mix. In summary, I'm not very impressed by this one. ![]() Classic J-Pop Volume 22 |

Billy Joel vs Gay Disco? No contest, gay disco every time.
I once had a contest with the gay assistant manager of a pub in town to see who could dance the gayest, up on the bar on a friday night to Safri Duo, which I won. It's a classic lassoo tune and far more interesting than Billy Joel. I think it's interesting actually reading comments like Dull's. It's not what I'd call a trance tune by any stretch of the imagination but that's just because being into dance music, I bother to categorise it. I call anything with an orchestra classical whereas I'm sure the CHetards have all kinds of different genre names they use. No, what's interesting is that he says that it all sounds the same. So far in this contest I've heard a shit load of indy-rock tunes that basically all sound the same to me, I honestly can't see any discernable difference between most of them whereas every dance music tune we've had so far I would say is quite, quite different. Obviously, what you're used to and enjoy makes a big difference to how you perceive other tunes but it's quite amusing to see some of you kids coming out with the sort of comments my mum would make. |

The obvious is that any person who has a vested interest in a few genres of music would obviously know more about it than someone uninitiated in it. The expert might know the nuance, the philistine probably not.
I think we all have some aspect of GoldfishX in us. ![]() Classic J-Pop Volume 22 |

In defense on my part in the "old fashioned" business. That's because I can't arse myself to dive in and check out "what's happening" on the soundwaves today. It seems a bit to hectic to try and explore in a chaotic environment where you have to deal with fractured "scenes" and multiple trends. So I took the lazy path and explore back-catalogues and older music where things are more settled and less pressuring to be on top of things. Sure, that may disconnect me from relating to my generation, but I can't help it.
I don't know about others, but that's how I function. ![]() Classic J-Pop Volume 22 |
