using a glockenspiel in a piece such as this really gives out the wrong impression.
Why is that? I think it blends in very well. I can see this piece being played by a grand orchestra live already with that man or woman behind the glockenspiel really.

It ruins the bombast of the piece and feels completely out of place. Any form of credible venom this track has been neutralised. I guess it may fit in context with the chocobos and all but ... it's just wrong.

I actually like orchestral bombast, but Memory of the World was such an awkward listen I honestly wonder what goes through the head of the nominator when he chooses to nominate something like this.

I vaguely remember Rain of Blossoms from SOTW, and aside from something cool happening in the middle, it's nothing special.

Both of these will hopefully get their just deserts in round two.

If you must know:

"Hey, I want to nominate something from Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon."
"Oh no, I don't have enough points left to ensure the track I want gets into the contest."
"I'll support someone else's nomination from the same game instead."

Startling revelations all around, I know.

'Rain of Blossoms' - This song is very unfocused and highly forgettable. I agree with the criticism that this song becomes sometime new every 15 seconds. It does use one overdone vi-V-IV-V progression a few times, but I can barely keep my attention on the song long enough to verify that.

'Memory of the World' - The melody from the battles with Atma Weapon and his brother, erm...Atma will always stand out to me, and especially so when it's pitted against a load of waffle like the first song. This one easily gets the win, though I must profess that the version from FFVI was good enough. The instrumental flourishes in the this one are a little weird-sounding.

Some heavily 80's mediocrity against an overly melodramatic and badly put together faux-orchestral piece? Toss a coin here I guess, rubbish orchestral wins. w00t.
Will they!?

Rain of Blossoms was somewhat average and then the organ break caught my ears, and subsequently the percussion. Not bad at all from there, but the I detract points for the synth, which I'm not a fan of. Despite the hate, I like Memory of the World a lot for being a rather triumphant update to Fierce Battle.

Grand Fantasm didn't have as good of a soundtrack as the first two games, last time I listened to them, but it's still quite good. This is one of the best tracks on it.

Memory of the World is a decent arrangement of Fierce Battle, but it doesn't really add anything special to it. I've never had a huge hardon for Fierce Battle in the first place; ranking it lower than many, many other tracks from FF6.
