Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to?

Port of Aida is one of the most acceptably repetitive songs I've ever encountered. This goes up there with King Dedede's song from the Kirby's Dreamland games. It is far superior to 85% of the other songs in this contest. That is all.

Port of Aida is the minimalism of One Who Bares Fangs at God taken the step too far that makes it horrible to listen to. There's a few decent melodic ideas in there, but for the most part, it is TEH SUCK. Those drums at the end aren't bad. But that's because they're the ONLY THING GOING ON.
The intro to Twilight Temple starts out teh awesome and wins my vote. Seriously, fuck the other song. Dammit I mis-clicked. Change my vote from the POS to the awesome second song. |
|
I guess I'm one of the only fans of the Turok 2 soundtrack on this board. River of Souls performed dismally in Song of the Week, and though I haven't checked this poll's results yet, I can assume Port of Adia is losing. Shame - I think the song is wonderfully atmospheric and intense. Twilight Temple was totally forgettable to me.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil - Port of Adia
I'm familiar with this song from its earlier SotW appearance. It's not bad, with driving militaristic percussion and a nice choral interlude. The real problem is that it seems like there ought to be a full-on A melody betwixt the two, and there isn't. That kicks it down a considerable notch, unfortunately. Amakagura/Jankagura - Twilight Temple And a new one to go with the familiar friend. I certainly didn't expect such a synthy/techno effort with this title. It doesn't break much new ground, but I found it to be rather fun. Twilight Temple. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

Turok 2 music is fantaaaastic. I prefer the main theme with the very melancholic.. oboe.. something something instrument that they used, but Port of Adia is epic too. Fond memories of playing that game/level too, even if the maps were far too big later on.

I though Port of adia was quite exciting to begin with but after a few minutes it was a bit 'yeah I get the idea now... you can stop... please'. The insistant rhythmic motives got boring very quickly and are hardly very original either.
Twilight didn't really do much for me, quite unappealing actually. The electronica doesn't sound very well executed and the melody is rather bland. Hmmmm both fairly middling... I will go for Port of Adia simply because it was at least exciting to begin with. |
![]() By the way it's interesting what reactions are coming up. Like last year as "Lone Trooper" was my #1 nom. Best Song Contest 2008 Winner Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation - THE LABERATION OF GRACEMERIA composed by Keiki Kobayashi Ultimate Video Game Composers List |

I hope my vote's actually been changed, cuz, you know, I'd hate to be the one vote that made that annoying POS go on.

: Turok 2: Seeds of Evil - Port of Adia : Amakagura/Jankagura - Twilight TempleI've known Port of Adia for years and I still can't decide if I like it or not. The repetition saws into my brain but somehow it seems to be epic, or maybe that's just a hallucination from the brain damage. Twilight Temple tries desperately not to be bland with hi-nrg and big drums out of nowhere at 0:44, but the synths and melody are both pretty lame. I'm actually liking Adia here more. |

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil - Port of Adia
Aside from the AK47 sound it's pretty decent. I can't imagine myself listening to this for too long. Sure to get a headache. Amakagura/Jankagura - Twilight Temple 0:42 made it very cool. This is difficult, but the second song really got my vote because of the second section with the nice percussion. Let's make it a tie, then wvlfpvp will feel bad.

Port of Adia is a huge guilty pleasure. I love it to death, repetitiveness and all. I came into this pairing knowing that I would be voting for it easily. Well Twilight Temple started out really cool at first but then the melody happened, making this vote easy. Fans of Adia should also check out the N64 version(sendspace) that I got from the preliminary USF set. It's lower quality, which means it should be of interest to true VGM fans.

Port of Adia seem to be anything special, with no further comment. Twilight Temple would be cool throughout if it focused more on the breakbeats but Darkcomet nailed it, with the melody coming in. However, I still like it more than Port of Adia.

"Port of Adia" is a strange one, innit? Painfully repetitive but housing some pretty nifty features to keep everything above water (lol and it's a port). Umm...yeah, don't really know what else to say. Average; this pairing could go either way for me.
And lucky for port, "Twilight Temple" is pretty bad. Don't get me wrong, I have big <3 for PYON-MO, I just can't seem to get into this track. Bland, with a below-average melody and some annoying amounts of compositional energy. Sorry, PYON-MO (but thanks to the nominator for nominating some of PYON-MO's stuff!) "Port of Adia" - 5/10 "Twilight Temple" - 4.5/10 |

Wow apparently I'm so familiar with Port of Adia that I didn't even listen to the MP3 being used in the contest once throughout, because I just noticed now that the ending cuts off before it fully loops. There's like 15 seconds of extra material used to loop missing, and while I doubt it will create even the slightest change in anyone's opinion, it's like my favorite part of the track. I cannot believe I missed this.
Here's the full version. |

I want to say Twilight Temple reminds of Idola: The Strange Fruits-lite. Great electronic backing, cool melody, lots of energy. Awesome find.
The Turok 2 track had potential at first, but getting just to the 2 minute mark was a chore.
I'm taking over this town...
I'm screaming for vengenace... I'm shouting at the devil... I'm not dead and I'm not for sale... Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time... |

Port of Adia is probably the one song that stuck with me immediately when I played Turok 2 back in the day. I guess you can call it repetitive, but I find it to have a wonderful melody that advances at a steady pace. Twilight Temple is hot fuzz, which makes it an okay track (and yes, very PSO-reminiscent).
