Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

OH YES. SEGA CD GLORY. ROAD AVENGER haha
Whoever nominated this should've thrown down the opening theme.

Solitude is a very nice track. I'm expecting Staff Roll to lose here, but I will give my support for Road Avenger's last hurrah, even though I might say Solitude is better.

Ciao.

Road Avenger - Staff Roll
Theme of Road Avenger reared its head some time back in SotW. Like its sibling, Staff Roll sounds like it was transferred to 8-track from a cassette deck held up to a speaker. It is much more listenable, though, and has a nice jazz sound.

Unlimited SaGa - Solitude
I suppose a few minutes of acoustic guitar improv do kind of capture a sense of solitude. As with most Hamauzu, it's impeccably produced even though it's tuneless and boring.

Staff Roll is definitely the more interesting of the two.

Cheers.

The composer who's rapidly grown off me in recent years VS. the composer who's gradually grown on me in these years. Solitude sounds better, but still.

Really surprised to see that Sakuraba contributed to the exact same Road Avenger that contains the greatest song in the universe. Staff Roll does not come close by any means, but it's quite good nonetheless.

Solitude is a pretty good solo guitar tune, even if it's structure could not get any more standard. Tough call, these songs don't break boundaries but they're good listens. Abstain once again.

ow my ears. Despite being awfully grating, "Staff Roll" is a pretty decent track, as it does everything well without doing anything particularly bad. Read: it's inoffensive and offensive all in one. This both perplexes and vexes me.

Standard Hamauzu > standard Sakuraba. "Solitude" will undoubtedly snatch my vote here. Some well-executed acoustic touches and a wonderful, humble little melody make this one an absolute keeper (well, I already had it but you know~).

"Staff Roll" - 7/10
"Solitude" - 8/10

I don't know what "standard" is to you, but the measures go a little something like this:

4/8 -> 5/8 -> 4/8 (x3) -> 5/8 -> 4/8 (x2) -> 6/8 (x9) -> back to the start

Awesome.

Solitude sounds nice, that's a given. It takes a good effort to mess up an extended acoustic guitar solo. But what Road Avenger lacks in sound, it makes up for in pure 80s-era cheddar, nice and thick. It's a bit refreshing, actually.

: Road Avenger - Staff Roll
: Unlimited SaGa - Solitude

Sakuraba did Road Avenger? That's actually pretty fantastic. And wow, when that synth comes in at 2:27, classic. Guess the game's got more than one song going for it (even though this one obviously pales in comparison).

Solitude is a damn solid solo guitar tune but it doesn't have cheesy chimes so clearly it's inferior.

Nice, both genres I like. Staff Roll is decent, but it seems like there should be more to it. Solitude isn't particularly novel as far as solo acoustic guitar pieces go, but I'd rather listen to it than Staff Roll.

I see pros and cons with each and I don't feel strongly about one over the other. Since the voting is so close, I will abstain.
