Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream - Wild Wind
A SotW alumnus, Wild Wind is classic Kanno: top-notch melody and execution matched by excellent sound quality. Vaguely Celtic, vaguely Copland, it's an uplifting and lilting piece. Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 - Main Theme Not quite up to Giacchino's standards in the genre, and definitely taking more than a little inspiration from Williams' "Private Ryan." Still, it's enjoyable enough--especially the low-key woodwind opening. Tough, but I think I prefer Kanno's more sprightly piece. ![]() 2008 NaNoWriMo Word Count: 33004/50000 |

Yoko Kanno's whimsical soundtrack for Napple Tale is probably my favorite that she's ever done, and considering her backlog of music that's a pretty huge thing. And among all those fantastic tracks, Wild Wind is one of the best ones on the soundtrack.
And I'm one of those guys who will call Main Theme generic wargame orchestral music. I just can't get into this stuff. The quiet melody reminded me slightly of this song, which... I'm not sure if that's a good thing. Anyway, you'd have to come up with something more to beat Yoko Kanno on any given day, let alone when she's at what I would consider her top form. |

I vaguely remember Wild Wind when it appeared in SotW. It does a very nice job of being a great track that I couldn't care less about; I thought that was Yamane's domain.
Main Theme is interesting, if nothing else than a MoH-Main-Theme-lite track. Can't say I enjoyed it too much, but I can't say I didn't enjoy it at all, so it wins this pairing. |

Main Theme's a fine track, stirring and reserved, but in a heavyweight matchup like this it can't afford any errors, and the obvious sentiment is that this BiA track is a slave to its genre demons. Wild Wind is a seriously good track (very comforting to know I loved it equally well in SotW), and its jam festival appeal should take it places.

Yoko Kanno's score to Napple Tale is one of my favourite scores to a video game ever. Both soundtrack releases are full of eclectic, fantastical and highly melodious musics; I'd be hard-pressed to vote against a Napple tune. And "Wild Wind" is definitely going to be a difficult one to beat. I'd almost consider this one a perfect composition; the melodious frivolity is infectious, the light-hearted instrumentation is fantastic and the entire track shines from start to finish as a result. Love this one heaps.
But oh god I think I'm in love. "Main Theme" is my favourite discovery thus far, it's just absolutely stunning. I'm not going to dissect this one and analyze it piece by piece, that might strip if of its pride and dignity. All I need to say is that this is near perfection; every note and instrumental touch is perfect. I can't believe I'm doing this but I'm voting for the main theme. It's just too damn good, sorry Kanno. (and to think I already had "Wild Wind" bolded when I starting writing this post...) "Wild Wind" - 9.5/10 "Main Theme" - 10/10 damn straight Why can't both of these move on. ![]() ![]() |

Wild Wind holy god Copeland channeled through a tiny Japanese Lady I'm in love.
I . . . I don't remember Main THeme and I just listened through it. |
: Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream - Wild Wind : Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 - Main ThemeI have no soul, so I don't really care about either of these tracks. Wild Wind sounds pretty good, but the melody doesn't stick with me at all. Neither does Main Theme's, but the build to the end is fairly nice, as stock as the track may be. Guess I'll go with Wild Wind for a bit more pleasant instrumentation than its competitor. |

This is one of the tougher votes in the contest for me. Both nominations are great songs. "Main Theme" is very inspiring and uplifting, while "Wild Wind" has a playful, folk quality about it. I'm feeling inspired tonight. :P
I think therefore I am... I think.
