Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

Call me crazy, but apart from Floater Land none of the Mario Galaxy tracks I've heard do anything for me. Wind Garden seems so... soulless, like it's just nice instrumentation and nothing else. Odin Sphere's Theme takes it in a walk (though the Shanachie version is better !!).

My nomination No 1 vs my (initial) No 2 - thanks a lot. As I happen to like both tracks equally I´ll leave the decision to the crowd (of estimated 30 people).

"Hey, where you goin'?" - "GFF. Best Song Contest 2008 is there." Ultimate Video Game Composers List |
"ODIN SPHERE's Theme" is a really nice piece of music. The vocals are a chilling kind of awesome, and the backing track is touching, harmonious and uplifting (especially the climax). Wonderful piece. "Wind Garden" is also fantastic, and appeals to me much more. The numerous melodies present are all fantastic and memorable, and the instrumental developments are damn perfect. One of the most accomplished pieces in the contest for sure! "ODIN SPHERE's Theme" - 8.5/10 "Wind Garden" - 9.5/1 ![]() |

Odin Sphere - ODIN SPHERE's Theme
An excellent track from an excellent album, and one of the best vocal pieces in the contest. Doesn't matter what language it's in (I heard that it's French, but it could just as easily be Japanese); the presentation and pure tone is stunning. Super Mario Galaxy - Wind Garden Another near-perfect entry from another accomplished album. Having live musicians really lends the music an extra edge. Close (and more than a little unfair; I'd easily swap either of these out for a malingering pukey track in another bracket). But the Odin Sphere vocals tug at the 'ol heartstrings a bit more. ![]() 2008 NaNoWriMo Word Count: 33004/50000 |

All of these Galaxy tracks are exceptionally good, so it's going to take something of high caliber to knock them off. Odin Sphere shows the difficulty of this task: a perfectly fine vocal track with competent orchestration and a decent singer still can't muster the chops to be a serious contender in this matchup.
