: 214 - VGMix - Figaro Chiptune : 220 - OCRemix - Burning Up : 097 Decisive Battle Against the Wanted Man : 010 - timsheehy - Wandering Ghosts (Latin Mix)All the instruments in Wandering Ghosts (Latin Mix) are too indistinct. Not much to say in the way of dynamics either. Plus the arrangement never really goes anywhere in the first four minutes. We're basically dealing with the musical equivalent of The Blob over here. Decisive Battle Against the Wanted Man is classic S.S.H. Does pretty much everything any S.S.H track does, but luckily one of those things is "be awesome." Ending's pretty weak, though. DJ Redlight doesn't come out with new stuff very often, but whenever he does, it's always hotness. Burning Up has an organ solo, awesome riffs, and excellent synth usage. Figaro Chiptune was the track I most considered dropping from my nominations, for two reasons. First, I already had a track by Shnabubula on the list, so I could've used the nomination to give to another arranger I wanted represented, like Israfel or Serenade. In the end, I decided it would be better to get both Behold the Winged Cathedral and one of his chiptunes mixes in. So then I had to decide whether to nominate this or his other excellent FF6 one, Espergirl 2A03. While the Terra mix has more impressive technical tricks, I felt the overall piece was weaker than Figaro. Amazing arrangement all around. |

010 Wandering Ghosts (Latin Mix)
I'm not normally one for latin mixes, but I actually rather liked this one. A bit long, yeah--a minute or two could have been amputated with no ill effects--but nice. 097 Decisive Battle Against the Wanted Man Never really been an SSH fan, personally. Like most of their stuff, there were moments I liked and others I detested, making the whole thing a bit of a wash. 214 Figaro Chiptune The title itself intrigued me when noms were uploaded. I'd rather it was one solid song rather than a bunch of interpretations, though; some were quite good while others would have led me to mute my NES. Does sound authentic, though! 220 Burning Up Your standard tekno remixx, ntohing that really stood out or elevated it beyond the average for me. Wandering Ghosts gets the cookie, here. ![]() 2008 NaNoWriMo Word Count: 33004/50000 |

A track I'd objectively rate high, because it's got some interesting details when I pay attention, but it's losing me every so often. 097 Decisive Battle Against the Wanted Man As far as I know SSH is just one person. For some reason I like the music though often time it borders on oversaturation of texture, but on the other hand this often produces a dense, absorbing soundscape, which suits well for passive listening. 214 - VGMix - Figaro Chiptune This sounds like tentacle rape. Wavy and multidirectional. 220 - OCRemix - Burning Up Nice sound, but for some reason it's not very memorable to me. I think I'll give it to S.S.H. |

Not sure how Wandering Ghosts got so much support. It's got cool sounds, but the balance was too poor. Hurt by the MP3gain a lot too. Not bad, just ultra rough and didn't age well.
I love both "Burning Up" and "Figaro Chiptune" but in terms of what I'd rather listen to again, the grooviness of "Burning Up" takes it. I loved the way the track evolved a lot more then Figaro. If Shnabubula used some of the expanded channel capabilities of NSFs from some of the Famicom Disk System tracks, his NSFs would be even more deadly. Voting after the poll close: 220 Burning Up
