"Metroid Title Remix" is pretty cool, but the sound quality is limited and it shows. Not bad for a tracker piece, but really dated, plus the arranged take here wasn't particularly impressive. How it got so many votes in the beginning is easy to call; it's familiar material. But nowhere near the top of Metroid mixes out there.
"Arrakis (Wormsign Mix)" isn't bad at all, but all things considered, I'd still rather listen to Exxos: Spice Opera. An older mix, but this one's aged pretty well on account of some solid production from Bart Klepka. Really cool percussion at the foundation as well as an energetic tempo has this feeling very exotic. The only way "Wandering The Wild Forest" can get votes is off of nostalgia. I like this one too, but shit, the timing of the piano isn't even smooth, which just makes the whole thing sound sloppy as well as inadvertently sluggish. "Seneca's Marble Pack Edit" is genius in musical form. Amazingly put together. The original SID from Stormlord never had me thinking someone could be inspired to come up with something so impressive. When this was released at Remix.Kwed.Org, I just knew it needed to be at OCR as well to show the American scene how the Commodore scene brings it. N-Joy and his then-fiancee Simona make a great team, with N-Joy providing some pro-sounding Italian-pop and Simona with some professional quality vocals. I love when I hear genres that I'd never expect to encounter in game music, just to show off the range it has. That's why I feel this track raises the legitimacy of video game music as an creative entity. And that's why it's an easy vote.

: 150 - OCRemix - Seneca's Marble Pack Edit : 006 - OCRemix - Arrakis Wormsign : 112 Metroid Title Remix : 044 - VGMix - Wandering the Wild ForestYeah, talk about that piano in Wandering the Wild Forest, wow. Mechanical timing would actually be an improvement. Gets a bit nice when the guitar comes in, though. Metroid Title Remix isn't bad, but it only gets good at 1:32. The build up to that point is okay, but the payoff doesn't quite make up for it. Dune Spice Opera is an amazing album, and it'd be unfair to compare Arrakis (Wormsign Mix) to it, but the mix has aged rather nicely. Percussion and pads are really loud compared to everything else, though. Wish it were easier to hear the other parts. Easy victory for Seneca's Marble Pack Edit. Sounds great, vocals are good, and I absolutely love the chorus. Plus you've got a token song ending guitar solo, come on. |

A rather weak matchup I must say, I can´t particulary say I was overwhelmed by any of these tracks. Wandering the Wild Forest wins for being slightly better than the rest.

OCRemix - Arrakis Wormsign
Takes awhile for the still-weak percussion to come in. One of those tracks that stretches development out over a stretch of time. VGMix - Wandering the Wild Forest Just to note, the piano is done in such a way that the note phrases sound off, but they're not. Still doesn't change the fact that it's come off more awkward than unique, or whatever it was going for. Metroid Title Remix Well that was short ![]() OCRemix - Seneca's Marble Pack Edit This must be markedly distinct from the source material! Comes off as Europop. ![]() Constellational, Bear Trap Utilizing, Legendary Hero, Galactic Bunny Wizard |

Nice for most of the time. I felt it was losing focus towards the end. 044 - VGMix - Wandering the Wild Forest Liked this one. There seems to be a lot Secret of Mana arrangements in this contest. 112 Metroid Title Remix A bit short, but the ambience was awesome, sounds like light in the dark. 150 - OCRemix - Seneca's Marble Pack Edit Nothing wrong with this one, felt like it's well done and built on good production. |

006 Arrakis Wormsign
I never saw what the fuss over the original tracks was, and I'm afraid that this mix is just sleep-inducing for me, though it does improve as it goes along. Where's Toto when you need them? 044 Wandering the Wild Forest I see that I'm not the only one that found the piano part a little wanting. Whether it sounds off the mark intentionally or not, it rather soured the track for me. 112 Metroid Title Remix I've said before that I'm not a big fan of Metroid music; this mix doesn't have much of a nostaligic hold on me as a result. When the melody comes in, the track leaps from mediocre to terrific--but there's precious little of the running time left. 150 Seneca's Marble Pack Edit AKA The Song So Loved It Was Nominated Twice. The upbeat portions were nice, the vocals were okay, and the deliberately scratched and vinyl-sounded selections were pretty bad. I have to confess I don't see what all the fuss was about, but to each their own. A meh bunch. I'm going to give a point to the Metroid piece for its brief, but enjoyable, melody section. ![]() 2008 NaNoWriMo Word Count: 33004/50000 |
