Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Currently playing: Geometry Wars Evolved 2 (XBLA), Half-Life 2: Episode Two (360)

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Tetris: Type A
An arrangement of an arrangement of a Russian folk song! I've never actually heard "Korobeiniki" sung or played, but there's no doubt that pretty much everyone knows the melody and associates it with falling blockyshapes. This arrangement is actually pretty good, adding a few extra rhythm layers and piano parts that sound Russian enough to fit in while leaving the melody itself intact.

Sim City - Village
Sim City as in the original Sim City? Or is this from the SNES version? Either way, this is a pleasant tune that doesn't do a whole lot and is over quickly.

Village is obviously taken right from the SNES soundchip and thus it brims with nostalgia and fond memories. As Orion pointed out, a pleasant listen but short and a bit plain. On the other hand Tetris Type A is even more of a classic, and wonderfully arranged too. Gotta go for the Brawl track here.

Hey another good "town theme", good, I enjoy eating my own words when it comes to bad music. The shortest song in the contest (without loop) is infectious, love those harmonies.

I doubt Tetris Type A is going to sway those with a concrete opinion on the soundtrack, but yeah, fun stuff. The beat out of nowhere actually makes this song even more enjoyable, though the fact that at that point the song starts to remind me of the Taj race music from Diddy Kong Racing.

EDIT: another very tough vote, I think I'll abstain. I've been doing this quite a bit in this contest.

You'd be right as regards my vote. If we were talking about one of the Tetris themes from the NES or Gameboy games, I'd probably be more interested. The 'Brawl treatment' of that song is to the original what the Tim Burton version of Willy Wonka is to the original Gene Wilder version - lots of fancy schmancy production ideas that thoroughly takes away from the piece's simple charm. I especially don't like the vocal parts that somehow made their way into it. There's a bit more taste used in this then, say, Bramble Blast, but I'd still like to see it dumped.

'Village' - Notwithstanding my nostalgia for the second SNES game I ever had (and I didn't get new games often at that age), this song's melody is just plain excellent. The simple, soothing arrangement fills me with bliss and I could listen to the song cycling over for hours. Makes me think twice about letting the village become a town. Very good nomination. Though it's short, it's at least an original composition and not yet another bullshit remix of a once good song.

The original Tetris music would easily beat 'Village' for my vote, but this time I have to go with Dr. Wright.

...and of course it's getting pummeled.

"Tetris: Type A" is the best Brawl arrangement I've heard thus far; hey whaddaya know, Shimomura was the arranger! Fancy that. I love how Shimomura took the humble, sweet original track and turned it into an IN-YOUR-FACE BEAST! The whistling is super-lame, but everything else is super-awesome. 0:27 is =O.

"Village" reminds me very much of "Cecil's Town", even though it's a little more piercing in nature and sound. The tranquility is still nicely conveyed though, and the melody is memorable and very wistful-sounding. This is not like the Sim City I've grown to know and love, but it's still endearing.

"Tetris: Type A" - 9/10
"Village" - 8/10

: Sim City - Village
: Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Tetris: Type A

Tetris: Type A is hilarious, but in a good way. The beats coming in at 0:45, yes. The piano parts and violin solo are great too. I can't hate something that makes me laugh so much.

Is that some SNES Sim City, fuck yes, nominator, you are awesome. Soyo Oka rocks the fuck out of that town theme, which is also too short, but who cares let's building cities.

I'm not crazy about the Tetris arrangement, and Village is just plain beautiful.
