Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Currently playing: Nothing

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

What else do I listen to?

Mario Kart Wii - DK's Snowboard Cross
It's got drive, it's got synth. What more could you ask for?

Himesama Oteyawarakani! - Sky March -This Princess with Divine Grace-
It's okay, but has a bit too much of that Asian Classical Music sound to it, which I don't generally like.

Snowcross.

This is a wicked one too. DK's Snowboard Cross is fun right from the starting line. The only negative is that it doesn't reach a real high point.

I splooged for Sky March last round and not much has changed. I think the Asian sound actually detracts a little from the piece (normally I'm a big proponent of classic asian music), but the whole is so good that it's a minor chink (pun not intended, I swear).

Hoo boy, nasty pairing this one.

"DK's Snowboard Cross" is one of the only tracks in the contest that I would consider pure fun. This is a little treasure, as it relies on its melody to deliver and doesn't count of fancy instrumental embellishments. Old-school is usually good-school in my books, and that's absolutely true here. One of the best Mario Kart melodies I've heard.

And speaking of fancy embellishments, here's "Sky March -This Princess with Divine Grace-"! MANYO can produce some pretty sweet tunes here and there, and I'd classify this one as such. It's very Asian, but that strangely doesn't annoy me too much here. The fancy violins are there, and the over-the-top progressions...but it's all done so well and with such talent. The melody stays intact the whole time, which is a plus.

"DK's Snowboard Cross" - 9/10
"Sky March -This Princess with Divine Grace-" - 9/10

This'll have to be my first abstain. I can't choose between these two, they're both great.

There is a lot of energy in the Mario Kart track, but uhh I dunno about the instrumentation, it kinda hurts my ears. Sky March is the more enjoyable track, but not a great track by all means. It's just the lesser evil of those two. Not a great pairing in my opinion.
More work?

Can't follow the DK track hype because it annoys me after a short time. Easy win for Sky March here.

Mario Kart Wii - DK's Snowboard Cross
Intro is tasty and cool. Main part is a bit average. Not really the best of the best, but the intro made me want to save the piece.

Himesama Oteyawarakani! - Sky March -This Princess with Divine Grace-
Not the best violin play. Harmony is in the style that I like. Worth saving too. This song overall is more consistent than the Mario song.
