Just noting it's Squaresoft Variation without an S at the end.
If I were more into the source material, I'd give it to "Dual Storm" in a heartbeat. "Tsukihime" was totally out of its element. Fine composition, cruddy sample quality and sequencing that exposed the fakeness of the whole thing. There's no polish on it, particularly the brass, which was shitty. "Save Me", there's a bit more leeway on the piano velocities being so similar, but I'm not feeling that myself. It's a solid arrangement though. "Squaresoft" takes it. Ciao.

I'd be lying if I said Dual Storm held my interest the entire way through, but the sections it had me were more than enough to pass it the vote here. Especially that last minute and ESPECIALLY those last 13 seconds or so.
Cheers.
I'm taking over this town...
I'm screaming for vengenace... I'm shouting at the devil... I'm not dead and I'm not for sale... Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time... |
: 024 Dwelling of Duels - Dual Storm : 034 OC ReMix - Squaresoft Variations : 001 Save Me (OCR Edit) : 071 Elegant Summer - Tsukihime~ Melty Blood ver BThe writing of Tsukihime~ Melty Blood ver B is more than fine, but it's the production that kills it. The sound quality and sequencing do nothing but kill the groove, which makes me sad, because I would really be getting into this if it sounded better. Save Me is an older mix and shows its age a bit, but it's still a solid listen. A bit repetitive (thinking mainly of the piano riff), but it packs in a lot of variety in there, the midsection especially. Squaresoft Variation is, well, Jeremy Soule. Come on. Just an excellent orchestral rendition overall. It's been in my OCR rotation since the day it was posted. Awwwww yeah, Dual Storm. I like BrainCells and CarboHydroM, and I love this collab mix of theirs, covering the already rocking TF3 tunes. Solid shredding from start to finish. I'm feeling the rock bias today, so I'm going to narrowly give Dual Storm my point over SV. Both excellent mixes. Ciao. |

Save Me (OCR Edit)
Quarter beat bass isn't doing it for me here. It's dance-like with no real direction. Dwelling of Duels - Dual Storm I OC ReMix - Squaresoft Variations No thank you. Anything with this much buildup instantly falls into at least my "acquired taste" category. That and I'm not much for orchestra unless it really differentiates itself. As well, Terra's theme is too cliche for me. Elegant Summer - Tsukihime~ Melty Blood ver B Oh yes, this is the music for fighting inside the Tohno mansion. I liked this piece, but then I usually like pieces that everyone seems to hate. There are other songs that sound more fake than this, but I guess knowing the context takes that edge off. The lounge atmosphere would have been awesome if this used real instruments. This would have been my pick if Dual Storm wasn't here ![]() Cheers. |

It came down to these two:
001 Save Me (OCR Edit) 034 OC ReMix - Squaresoft Variations Save Me is wonderful trance I can't pass up, it sounds like something ripple (from [Rippile Tale]) would do, though it's a bit slower. Squaresoft Variation is about unique image and microscopic detail. Damn superior technology. I liked Dual Storm as well, but wanted to vote for something other than rock. I couldn't feel Tsukihime~ Melty Blood ver B at all, despite what care has been put into it. Cheers. |

Save Me was one of those generic Robert Miles remix. h8~
Dual Storm was very cool. Nice sound production and medley of tunes I love. Squaresoft Variation is nice. Nothing mindblowing though. Funny version of Elegant Summer. Amusing, heh. Ciao. |

001 Save Me (OCR Edit)
More piano/tehcno beat, which I think I might grow sick of rather soon. The tune's okay, but a little too much on the "let's repeat these notes forever and throw some more layers in" side. 024 Dwelling of Duels - Dual Storm Not my taste. 034 OC ReMix - Squaresoft Variations A nice arrangement with some superior synth. I've always like the idea of professionals doing some doujin; I think it should happen more often. 071 Elegant Summer - Tsukihime~ Melty Blood ver B Lazy jazz like this is another style that I just can't get into. Variations for me...but you knew that already. Cheers.

Elegant summer didn't quite touch people. It's all the fault of Garritan Jazz Band's sax most likely. Gotta find better samples...
Ciao.

I'll take two spoonfuls of the repetition in "Save Me." It never ceases to enchant me, and it excels because of its length (including its adoring interlude). Combined with Frame of Mind, that's two incredible SGX tracks I could support for rounds and rounds.
Cheers. |

Since the winners are already pretty clear, I'm going to vote for Melty Blood, in honor of what it could be with a little more work. Love the concept, just need to get some percussion in there and maybe speed up the bass by about 100%.
