Secret of Spram is a fine remix. But even in Round 2 we're starting to see some very good songs get eliminated. Dragon Song is on a totally different level, conceptually, aurally, texturally, whatever, and even the criticisms some have levied against it for the singer and lyrics feel totally unwarranted. This is a song to get behind.

Secret of Spram really isn't a bad song on any level, it's just that this pairing sucks and Dragon Song is better.

Wow, what an evil pairing. Both are excellent Secret of Mana mixes. Secret of Spram has been a favorite of mine for a while; love how it adds some flair and yet retains a good deal of the source track's style. Kikuta's got an affinity to rhythm that he flaunts in many of his compositions, and this mix pays homage to the man in this regard.
And yet, wow, Harmony totally transcends my expectations with Dragon Song. It's not very often that I hear a vocal arrangement that I really enjoy, but everything seems very well executed here. Subtlety abounds, and lends the track great aural beauty. The guitar makes my ears melt with pleasure. Can't believe it slipped under the radar for me. I'd even go so far as to say that it's the discovery of songs like these that fuel my desire to participate in GFF's song contests. Easy vote for Dragon Song after thinking over it a little while... I guess I just needed to get over my pre-existing love for the competition. |

090 Dragon Song
Like the arrangement, not so hot on the vocalist. 217 Secret of Spram (8 Bells Mix) Weaker arrangement that meanders quite a bit. Neither of these really sets the world on fire for me. I suppose Dragon Song could use a coin toss point though.  2008 NaNoWriMo Word Count: 33004/50000 |

Dragon Song is undoubtedly fantastic on many levels already. Not one I am thinking about keeping yet, but still deserves a lot of respect for the output it produces. Secret of Spram isn't bad, but the overall mood is too Christmasy for me.
