Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

What else do I listen to?

Yeah, "The Battle of Final Destiny" is still cool. The chiptune-rock transition still sounds great and active, and the melody is pretty strong as well. Yes, that's what this track's about, STRENGTH.

"Lively Town" just beats the Earthbound tune, though. It's purely a matter of preference for me, though, since I think that both of these are fine pieces of music. This track, however, has that bouncy, fun town theme vibe that I love. Plus it helps that the melody here is a tad more memorable (albeit potentially irksome).

"The Battle of Final Destiny" - 8/10
"Lively Town" - 8.5/10 (ness inclusive)

Ciao.

I love Lively Town, but I really have to wonder how it can even touch Earthbound's final battle. Lively Town is a simple and fun music while Final Destiny is just epic and musically amazing. The composition is really something else, especially at that time.
I know happy tracks always end up having the advantage here, but maaan. Anyways, just a useless rant. :P I guess that's what happens when a song completely blows you away at 10 years old in front of your TV.

Cheers.

The Battle of Final Destiny
This track is a good old chip tune. It reminds me of Wizards&Warriors 2 (NES) at about 1'.
I really like this track but only for some parts.

Lively Town
Ah ... Shining Force ... imba game on Megadrive. I really like the Shining Force musical ambiance. But this sound is getting on my nerves. It's too repetitive and gets really boring as it's the 2.000 time I am listening to it.

The Battle of Final Destiny : 6/10
Lively Town : 5/10

Ciao.

Have to give it to the bouncy and cheery "Lively Town". It's very memorable, definitely more so than the competition which I'm quite surprised is in Round 3. But then again, I've found it quite difficult to appreciate a lot of Earthbound tracks.

Cheers.

With a good dose of nostalgia, I bet I would have a pretty hard-worn affinity for Lively Town. Without it, it's a bouncy track that's simply pleasurable but hardly swoon-inducing. In short, I'm looking for a reason to bounce it at this point in the contest. Too bad I don't like The Battle of Final Destiny enough to vote for it. Either track should get knocked out sooner rather than later.

Ciao.
