Welcome to the Gamingforce Interactive Forums.
GFF is a hellhole full of elitists who chat about everything EXCEPT games. We have a team of dedicated moderators who will ban your ass on the slightest provocation, constant member-organized activities that you are not allowed to participate in, and plenty of custom features, including our unique journal system where you can post entries that will be completely ignored. If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ or our GFWiki. You will have to register before you can post. Although membership is completely free (and gets rid of the pesky advertisement unit underneath this message) we do not recommend that you sign up, because you will get kicked in the nuts repeatedly.

Details:
GFF Radio has had lots of incarnations over the years, and although music is great, I've always found the best parts to be when the host talks and interacts with callers. I'm not the sort of person to carry a show on my own, but a few months ago I found a website that would allow me to host a show and have other folks call in. With this in mind, I'm going to give hosting a shot, but I'll need the community to help.

Blogtalkradio allows anyone with a phone and a computer to host their own show over the internet. There's no charge, no restriction on content, and a fairly straight-forward interface. Here's how it works:

-I schedule a time and length of my show on the website. I can book time up to a month in advance, and generally any slot is open.

-I call in to a "host" number with my cell phone, and start the show at the given time.

-Callers use a different phone number to call in. The phone number is local to New York, but most folks these days have access to free nights/weekends, so that shouldn't be an issue. There's supposed to be a way to use VoIP as well, but so far it doesn't seem to work so well.

-On my computer, I can see a switchboard of all the callers, and I can use it to put folks on air, put them on hold, or disconnect them. There can be up to 6 callers on air at one time (in addition to me).

-People can listen to the show live, or download an archive later.

I can upload music as well, but I'd really like this to be an opportunity for GFF members to talk to one another and have a good time. Whenever you listen to the live broadcast, you're automatically placed in a chatroom on blogtalkradio; you have to register at the site to be able to talk, but that hasn't held anyone back so far.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has a better logo for my profile (which you see when you load the show), that would be great. Sound effects would be handy as well.

This is a great idea!

"ITE: we talk about stuff"

Heh.. Perhaps we should toss around ideas for topics that can be discussed for each upcoming show.

Topics would be extremely useful, especially if this becomes a regular thing. I've allotted 60 minutes for the first show, but that can change for the future if we need more time. Once you hit the time limit you specify, the show keeps recording and your callers aren't disconnected, but the show stops streaming.

If this becomes popular, I'll have to work out a system so that everyone gets a chance to talk. I was thinking, every five minutes or so, having the folks in chat voting which caller gets the boot so someone else can talk. The switchboard shows me the phone numbers of incoming callers, but since I don't know any of those, I'll have no way of knowing who's who.

As someone who listens to way too many podcasts, I think this sounds great. I'll definitely try to call in on the first show, and I'll be glad to help you in any other way I can as well (I just can't draw/design for shit, so it's a no go on the logo).

I thought about doing one of these around the Maine meet time, though it would have parts of music because I can't pull an hours worth of conversation for anything more than a couple of minutes.

Anyways, when this starts I will be sure to listen.

I've been thinking about this talk radio business and the raw potential it has.

Honestly, the mere idea of some emo prat bitching and moaning on the air, only to get chewed out by irate callers like Deni, LeHah, or Sass~ That would literally be the best thing ever!

You could quote from a wealth of different threads while you're on the air. As you mentioned in chat, there aren't that many specific hot topics throughout the boards. Still, the sheer diversity of GFF can fill the gap in regard to subject matter. If you were to pluck comments from each of the sub-forums, people could flock in from not only that sub-forum but probably from all over the boards as well. Between folks from GD, CC, TQP, PP, The Sewers, Gaming, Concert Hall, Media Centre, and even Animespot, the possibilities are almost endless. I'm sure someone will have something to say.

And, like we also discussed in chat, the addition of audio clips would be an essential and welcomed part of the show. Imagine hearing lurker yell, "FUCK YOU!" each time you disconnect someone. Or Tails yelling, "GRAPE DRANK!" every time.. Hell, you could just randomly play it.

Man, it would be chaos. And it would be awesome.

I guess thats a valid reason for not starting one, though I would mostly not talk and let other people take care of it since this idea is rather listener-based.

That's really what I'm aiming for, something that's listener based. I'm not the talkative sort, but I'm hoping we'll get some lively interaction between callers mixed with some goofy sound clips, with the result being something that's fun to listen to and also be a part of.

Of course it sounds neat and all, but I get the feeling this will go the direction of similar past attempts like Devo's radio and such. Although then again, this seems to be directly more interactive so the activity level should directly be dependent on how frequent we all participate. Too bad I live in Canada ;_;

Just to make this thread appear less empty I'll mention again that I'll definitely be tuning in. I helped Nutty with the test call last week and aside from his phone mic dying, causing him to plug the Xbox mic into his phone to talk things went pretty smoothly. The all-music radio shows like Devo's got boring very quickly, so a new one based around calling should be fun.

Yay, someone bumped the thread! I'm honestly surprised that this hasn't generated more interest. A few posts here, and some discussion in chat the other morning, and that's been it. I'm hoping it's just that people haven't noticed the thread.

It doesn't matter where you live! If calling a NY number is long distance for you, there's also a button on the website where you can join in over their VoIP for free.

When you click the "Click to Talk" button, a connection window will pop up and you will be asked to type your name so that the host may identify you on his or her switchboard.
Come on folks, throw out some suggestions, or at least give me some reassurance that I'm not going to be talking to myself for an hour.

15 minutes to showtime.

To listen to the show, go here. There's a link to the chat room there as well, and once the show goes live at 11:30, a player will appear on that page.

US callers can call (646) 200-3390; supposedly once the show starts, a "Click to Talk" button will appear which anyone worldwide can use, although the site says in only shows up in IE.
