Magi's Sketch Book

Sort of a Daily Art Thread thingy, I guess.

This is sort of the idea I got from Concept Arts.

I'll start with something seasonly.
Spoiler:

I am not quite done with this though. This particular avatar have exchangeable parts such as her hat and body parts. Those are all saved as separate layers can be replaced and updated for other event or a different look.

Super Scooter <3

Rococo get around town in her "Super Scooter". (lol) An electric moped that goes up to around 30 mph. It tows a little trailer thingy for shopping purposes. Its got Rococo's Bakery Sign on it.

I am actually not very good at drawing people operating something or riding bike or something of that nature, the object that they are interacting with often interferes my drawing of the character from time to times.

Shinzo as an adult(18). He joined the royal paladins guards of the Lanthine, although remain somewhat of a rogue. He doesn't have much of his timidity as a child.

Mikael: Care taker to Lanthine, until the day Princess Arrowyn is to take power.

Karlim, House of Gray Wolfs. The reason that the Bounty Hunter's Guild has hold up for so long is because of him. War buddies of Leon and Jack during the Uggrasuix-Gaianian Wars. He had a fallout with Jack after the war on some principle issues which eventually leading to jack leaving the guild. He remain at the guild and working behind the scenes to bring small reforms to the practice of the organization.

Cyclones, developed during Tartarus' rebellion against Lanthine, they belongs to a class of monsters that are totally powered by magic. Immune to Cathian based spells and life force magic. Was the most effective weapons against the undead... until it turns against Lanthine during the Titan War.

Argo-Rimu: A lesser demon assigned with the task of assassinating Princess of Lanthine.

Some Rendering issues
Blender's Internal Rendering Engine Rendering time a few seconds

Spoiler:

Yafray: 27 minutes

the light setting for the two render is exactly the same, there is exactly one light, there is a subtle but important difference in depth of the image. Particularly in the shadows.

I really like the render of the building quite a bit! I actually connect with it strongly because it reminds me of the stuff I used to design in UnrealEd back in the day. Sigh.

The building is interesting, I gotta do a fly through one of those days. Radiosity take too long to render though. UnrealEd eh? Man, It would be fun to create interesting envirment to explore. -w-

Some experimental method, I haven't "speed paint" for a while. Around 20

I'm really impressed with all your stuff. It just seemed to get better from the first post on. I'm not much for anime, but some of your colour work was really pleasing, and of course I loved seeing how you took the concept drawing and made it real in that program...I had aspirations for that sort of thing, but it fell by the wayside; I like the architecture . Keep going!

Hey thanks. :3 I am actually not particularly good at coloring. <.<, I am still working on it, there are people that I really likes in terms of coloring style that I am trying to emulate.
Practice, mainly from the photo reference dub tutorial book "portraiture" (It was a Japanese publication), I have had it quite a few years. There are a lot portrait photo in that book, pretty good for this purpose.
Spoiler:

Ruby... Just doodle.

The solar array controls... This doesn't actually show up in the render that much, but I am thinking about putting in some additional details in it.

Here are the renderings. The Blender's internal Ambient Occlusion rendering...

and Yafray.

I added some stuff when I was working on the Yafray. Note that it doesn't have the grainy quality of the Ambient Occlusion, which I liked, however, it creates lights in much better fidelity, of course, the down side of that is time.
Although time consuming, its also very possible to make pretty good rendering with Ambient Occlusions.

Although I still haven't being able to reproduce the effect of "light through transparency", not even caustics, I still have a lot to learn.

I probably should rely less on the use of raytrace reflection on those images, its beginning to feel gimmicky, heh. I just found out how to use "array" modifiers on Blender.
